Something to share with the Das Volks Community. I purchased my Beetle a couple of years ago from a good friend and fellow Das Volks member. This is the build when I purchased it:
-Stock Rocker Asseblies
-Dog Hose Cooling
-1776 Single Port Stock Valve size
- Full Flow Oiling
-8.0:1 CR
-Dual Weber 34 ICT
-Eagle Racing Type 1 Camshaft, 2280 Grind (Cheater Cam)
Cam Specs: .359" Cam Lift, .394" Valve Lift (1.1 Rockers), 274 degrees advertised duration, and 222 degrees of duration at .050", on a 108 Lobe Center.
-Stock Single Port Heads 3 angle Valve Job
-Tri Mil Ceramic 2 Tip Exhaust
-Counter Balanced Forged crank
-13lb Lightened Flywheel
This is a very meticulous detailed build that had very low miles . I wanted to retain the stock look and not give up any of the performance and reliability. Here is what I decided to do after much research.
- Added Venturi Ring To Fan Housing
- CB Solid Rocker Shaft assemblies
- 1776 Dual Port
- 8.4:1 CR
- Race Ready Products Modified Ported Dual Port End Castings
- ACN Super Stock Intake manifold . http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Super-Stoc ... nifold.htm
- ACN Super Stock 34-3 Carburetor . http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Super-Stoc ... k-34-3.htm
- Vintage Speed Exhaust http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Vintage-Sp ... -05200.htm
- ACN L3 heads (http://vwparts.aircooled.net/ACN-Stocke ... s-pair.htm) For dual port
I kept everything else the same except above
-Results are astonishing. Cant believe it is the same car. Much more power than before. Basically going to Better flowing dual port heads, Single 34-3 modified by ACN, more Compression, Better flowing Intake Center section and End Castings, Better Exhaust. the Super Stock Carb has the 28mm Venturi and Jetting to match. Stock Venturi is 26mm.
Much better acceleration. Keeps pulling to about 5200 RPM. Old Combo was good to about 4400. Had a good friend take it for a drive. Could not believe it was a single carb motor. Exceeded my expectations. And VS exhaust is much more quiet than Tri-mil 'Hot Dog' Muffler
The reason for this post : There are VW enthusiasts who like a little more and either do not want to deal with dual carbs OR want to retain a more stock look or sleeper look.
Anyone interested can contact me. jimbo946@optonline.net or 631 897-6943 Jimmy (I can sen pice on request)
ACN no longer sells modified super stock 34-03. Not enough good cores and will only use Bocar and cant get anymore. There is another opton: I am having 2 built by Volkzbitz:
For anyone interested, Volkzbitz will provide a 34-3 vith machined venturi's. He will make Jetting recommendations based on your builds. Prices are very reasonable.

I asked Tim if he can machine 28mm venturi, No problem. Not able to find any others in the US. located in Washington.
You can email for specifics: tim@volksbitz.com
