57 oval

I just brought home a 57 oval window. It is a bit of a Frankenstein vehicle. it is sitting on a 69 irs pan. it is very solid only area that needs attention is the passenger side pan.I will probably sand down some of the car to get down to original paint and get rid of the boat light, giant tires and roll cage. Eventually I will get the fenders fixed

Not really sure what I exactly want to do with it. I went last week to get it registered and it’s going to take the DMV 5 weeks to get me plates. They are backed up from the pandemic. Once I get it completely registered and inspected I will finalize a game plan. I have some wiring issues to sort out before I can pass inspection.

Its a safety inspection, I'd be surprised if they even look at it. For $10 it's not worth their time.

When I got the car it had some shifting issues. I ran a new clutch cable and gave it an adjustment and that seemed to do the trick. Im probably going to need a new clutch sooner rather than later. I got this aftermarket over sized nut and it made life so much easier.

I went to put a batwing steering wheel on and noticed someone must have put in a later steering column so that is going to have to get swapped out.

I'm still waiting on the license plates from Albany, once I get them i'm going to get the car inspected and put some miles on it before the snow comes. This winter I want to do the following

- Por 15 the pans or replace the pans
- Clear coat the exterior of the body
- put a new wiring harness in
- new fuel lines
- swap out steering column
- new speedo. Either going stock or the link below

After almost 6 weeks I received my license plates from the DMV. The previous owner thought there was some shifting issues turns out all it needed was a new clutch cable and Bowden tube. Stay tuned for more updates soon.

Finally started working on the beetle again. I'm in middle of putting in a new wiring harness, new fuel lines, and putting in a correct steering column/ steering wheel. I also have all my locks in California getting rekeyed and cleaned up.

I got the later steering column/wheel out. I wasn't planning on doing this immediately but I was able to find the correct parts and I already had the gas tank out.

My plan is to get the car back running with new fuel lines and electrical system. Once I have everything the way I want it I'm going to pull the motor, clean it up, adjust valves, oil change, put in a new clutch, new tranny mounts, flush tranny/new fluid, and put in new rubbers between the body and engine.

My plan is to make this car a solid driver and enjoy it the way it is for a while. I might clean coat the exterior for now. I don't know what I am going to do interior wise but the red dash is making me crazy.

Finally getting back into the swing of things after barely touching this car for almost 2 years.

I sold my bus last spring to help buy a home in Long Beach. After months of working on the house it was time to work on my 2 car garage. The previous owners used the garage as a home gym so two walls had to come down.

Ive been going through the beetle for the past two night and ordering parts. What a difference not having to drive 30 minutes to work on your car. This is the first time in 5 years I have lived with my VW.

Two years ago the beetle was running. I am almost done with a new wiring harness. After I am going to go through the fuel and brake systems. I want to get smaller tires before I put the car back on the road

Thanks. Floor is very easy to install. Was going to go with the bare concrete but it was in worse shape then I thought. The floor tiles are just a band aid

Been trying to get into the garage at least an hour a night a couple days a week.

Pulled the engine and cleaned the engine bay today. Tomorrow i am pulling the trans. While I have everything out I will be doing the following

Engine
- fuel lines
- spark plug wires
- new clutch
- checking valves/points
- oil change
- cleaning the tins
- new battery cables
- Rubber around engine

Trans
- all new mounts
- new ground strap
- replacing fluid
- case cleanup

Used an electric pressure washer on low and elbow grease. Some OG paint was hiding

I am waiting on a bunch of parts to come in. Every night the list of parts i have to order keeps growing.

Also I have a friend who had his garage floor epoxied and it came out amazing and is wasn't that expensive.

Yes, the big tires rub when making tight turns. I have been debating trying to use spacers instead of going to stock tires. Going to have to think about it.

Got the tranny out and clean up the case. Forgot to take an after photo. While I had the tranny out I replaced the tranny fluid, all 3 mounts and the ground strap

I was surprised by the difference in size of the ground straps. I got the strap from WW. I read on thesamba that a lot of people had the size difference.

Looking good dude! Keep at it!

Make sure to check the Throw Out bearing and those little terrible clips that hold it on. Also to grease the input shaft before reinstalling the motor.
