1965 VW bug

Post by Raj »

Lets try this again..... hopefully it doesnt get 'purged' again.

I bought this 65 bug off some a young dude in Huntington about 10 yrs ago. It was a painted roller, but stripped. I have no pics of it from back in the day bc I lost my hard drive last year.

Back in the day it used to rock a 1641 with newer ghia LP front brakes so it had a weird 4/5 lug set up.

( some pics are too big, yes i know)

Then I got the itch for a stroker. I started to prepare the car. Paint was first. The PO had the body painted but didnt get under the hood, decklid etc.

I was very pleased with her performance after the install.... but.... I wanted to iron out a few issue. It was mated to the stock tranny for starters, and I really wanted the security of a rev limiter. So I decided to address that later, and drive it for a summer.

I upgraded the front brakes to a wide 5 disks and installed a CB 2 inch beam. Purchased some polished empi 5's, rear popouts and few other tidbits.

No doubt. I knew I wanted a 2l...... but your car sold me. It had been too long since I have owned anything with some go go juice.

finally got my tranny on memo weekend.

I met a dude on TS that wants to create some business in the market. He bartered the trans for a few cores. I wanted a strong tranny with flyer gears so that the car can be driven comfortable for a distance. I told him I'll run his stickers if he wants, and we go back to him for the IRS for LT project when the time comes. We'll see how it holds up.

Freeway flyer, Welded gears, super diff.......
The Gear ratios are:
1st 3.80
2nd 2.06
3rd 1.26
4th 0.89

and yes, its a later IRS case with a swing diff, notice the T/O bearing collar ( always a fun debate here)

Stay tuned for install pics.

Hey Raj,

I see the gear ratios you now have..............what were the originals? What will your expected highway cruising speed/rpm be? Finally, I see you bartered for the tranny........in reality what would this go for dollar wise?

Took the pig out of ' storage' as she's getting ready for some updating. She cleaned up nice, but rims need some polish. I'm waiting on my order of parts, so maybe I'll yank the motor next weekend.

Had to get a new set of snap ring pliers from Sears, these work better.

Installed short axels and needed two snap rings per side
