Mike, look at the picture in the Samba thread i post. You'll see there in a 'notch' in the firewall. My rubber was pinching the cable at that point. I bet yours is too.

just a quick little update.

Moving kinda slow on the projects as I'm busy finishing up some loose ends on the house before the open house.

I reverted back to the org linkage as the bellcrank wasnt getting full throttle. It must be something in the geometry. I didnt spend close to 150 on something that I had to reengineer..... so needless to say... i was a bit annoyed and went back to the other one. This 'old' linkage was ok, but required some mods to work with the stock thing shroud. It was flexing from side to side, and wasnt returning back to idle bc it lacked a return spring.

I cleaned up the old weld and laid some more material on it. now she strong like bull. I put it all back together and there is minimal flex from the right to left side. Better. I order a set of return spring from ACE, and installed them. NIce laser cut mounts, and stiff springs.... i likey.

She is still idleing hi, I'll keep playing with that, but overall, the tranny install went nicely. DS boot still leaks..... PITA. So I have to address that. I took the 135 home last nite form All American GTG...... wow. Nice to drive this beast at speed finally. It is a little 'slower' than it was with the stump pulling stock 65 trans, but overall, i think she is more driveable now, and will not be one of those ' never to leave LI' cars. lol..... and now Samab joe wont pull away from me on teh way to CT. I wanna put some miles on it ( maybe a few trips to OBI etc) before she goes to Flanders.

So I drove back out to OBI this sunday.... ran great... she just dont like to start when hot.

The only other issue I want to address before I button her up completely is this damn oil leak. I thought it was my SA boot.... but it turns out is the oil cooler thermo switch. There is a switch in line on the outlet of the oil cooler. So once the oil exitiing the cooler hits 180 the switch throws the fan on. That little switch is leaking oil....... not bad... but emough to piss me off. I'll order the switch today, hopefully have it installed by flanders.

I haven't heard You talk much about this new tranny of Yours now that You have some miles on it. Is that just part of You not liking to advertise for people or was it not worth the barter You got it for. I'm still waiting on those holeshot pictures or dounut vids.
Any races with the new tranny? Or did it just make it more highway drivable?

Nah.... just to much going on with the house. I have very limted time to play with all the vws. (i know i know.... what til the puppies). Painting , grouting, lawn shit, packing, cleaning all the time. The good news is my house loosk the best it ever has.

I actually asked the builder for stickers for my car, i have no problem advertising his tranny as he did right by me.

Holeshot pics and burnout vids arent quite there yet.... I wanna get a rev limiter before any 'tom foolery'. I still need to install the traction bar, and fix this damn oil leak. Once thats alll done... we'll talk. I also wanted to get some miles on the trans before i get too wild. The tranny is geared higher for the highway... its a bit slower now, but still makes me leave skidmarks ( on the road too) when i goose it.

BTW..... someone bring a camcorder to jims. I think we might shoot the vid there.

Good some goodies in the mail today.

The rev limited/ cdi box will hopefully offer great returns with its two stage fully adjustable rev limiter

How does a two stage rev limiter work? What makes it two stages?

its kinda like an ptimum shift point and then an absolute rev limit.

Also good for burn out and then race.

I dont quite know yet exactly, I have to further my readings.

Since I banged in today, i was in the garage kinda late last nite. I looked at the oil temp switch a little further. As expected, it is two parts. The new one has a tag that clearly states that it should only be hand tight.

So I went under the car and snugged up the 'old' switch , which is not even a year old, so shouldnt be leaking. I'll try that for now... worse case, i'll install the new part. While i was under there, i adjusted the clutch a hair, and tightened up the engine bolts.

I installed the CDI this afternoon..... kinda neat stuff. Rather straight fwd install. It would have been easier if I hadnt hid all the wires on the last time I installed the motor. I made it happen anyway.

I've never had a rev limiter.... cool stuff. Sure shit, its balls on with the tach and wont let the car overrev. I makes you feel a little better about getting on the motor a bit. At least you arent gonna bust a rod or something simply bc you missed a shift or snapped your throttle cable or something. I set it at 3k for S&G's...... Mashed the pedal...... climbed quickly to 3k and stayed there.

I read up in the manual, The 2 stage limiter is basically just two settings. If I throw 12v at the other setting via one wire, the alternate setting will override the initial one. I'm thinking this would be useful in the future once I get it all dialed in, figure out optimum shift points, engine torque, etc.

Test drive to Jims tommorow.

I wanted another set of rims/ tires for the 65, just to mix it up once in a while. I wanted to do something traditional yet timeless. I have always wanted a set of centerlines so I found a set locally. The front fir fine. I need to get different lugs to use with my current studs. 3.5 up front with 135 for the fat/ skinny look.

Image

The rears were 7 inch are I knew that they were too wide to begin with. They were on a fat fendered 64ish custom car... not a big fan of widened fenders. On the stock fenders they looked dumb. They would def rub once lowered.

Image
Image

So I sold these rears on TS. And bought 6inchers off TS. They just came in from Hawaii. ahhh... much better.

So on the way home from Litchfeild I lost all power on Rt 112, and had to pull over. Luckly for me I has BusBQ nearby with some scrap wire and solderless connectors. I ran a hot wire from my alt to the + side of the coil, and drove it home. Today I located the issue. I used my new power probe to help locate the issue. The power probe connects to a pos and neg source, and allows 2 main functions. 1- if you touch anything it will let you know if that item is hot or neg. 2 - you can turn the probe into hot or neg with a flip of a switch. nice item

Image

on the fuse block, some tabs are touching each other sharing power.
Image
this one is hot on one side ( red light)
Image

neg on the other ( green light)
Image

turns out the somehow became separated from each other. Never seen that before. Slapped on a little solder, until i find a replacement 65 fuse block. tada!
