Latest project some of you saw at St pats parade.
Finally got it on the road and have been working out the kinks. So nice having one the wife likes!

'Things' happen Charlie. With the two small boys and a few large house projects happening this summer, I grabbed this as a means to satisfy my need of a clean driver. Its got 21k miles on it, with one very nice repaint. Im looking fwd to summer with it and the family.

Been super swamped with house work so havent touched the Cars in awhile. I had an electrical gremilin in the ignition switch of the thing lately, where the power would cut off intermittently. Since this switch / key matches the car and the doors, I was reluctant about swapping out the the thing only switch with another. I did some research and found that the electrical portion of the switch is actually replaceable... supposedly. While thats on order I jumped the wires to the old fog light switches.
Just while testing it, the freaking throttle cable snapped! Finally got it back together and hoping to test her out this weekend.

If it's anything like any other VW ignition switch which there's no reason they wouldn't be. The ignition switch is separate from the ignition lock.

Havent done anything to this poor thing... she needs some loving!
I want to put its motor back into the baja, so that has to come out. While Im in there, the tranny that is in there grinds and pops out of reverse, so I'll replace with the White Camo one. I want to clean up the engine bay too, so its on the list; full douching and maybe replace the seal as I think it has a tear.
Longer term plan is to put in something stock looking, ( maybe even a thing only AM case). I want it super reliable, but complete, quiet, and fit the look of the car.
Im toying with the idea of a 74*88 slip in with 90.5 heads ( have all those parts ready to build), but I just fell into a rebuilt 1600, so that will be going in for now.
Moved over all the stock tin to the long black, and had to swap out the full flow filter to a stock 26mm.
Also yanked the rear bumper and tire carrier. They are powdered but not perfect finish. So I will refinish them also to match the paint's condition.

Made some progress the other night, but had to cut it short as the smallest beast isnt falling a sleep as great as he once did.....
need to tidy up the engine bay as the motor that was in there had a minor oil leak.
Old trans out, and trans thats going in needed a good douching and replacement clutch return spring.

Sunday I cleaned out the engine bay and yanked the old engine bay seal.
Installed the new seal this week and dropped in the motor and trans.
Had some issues with the 009 and 34 carb that was on there, so been playing with alternatives I have. Hoping I can get it going tonight. Test drive to work tommorow. Then newsday on Sat. Fingers are crossed!

Put in a 019 and swapped carbs. Drove to work today... not to shabby. I think it will make it to Newsday tomorrow, and then next week I'll keep fine tuning the motor.

So far so good. I have a freshly rebuilt carb that is giving some issues, so Im planning on sending that back to the re-builder. In the meantime, its doing ok as is. Still painting some tin, and reinstalling some little parts that it should have. New plugs are on deck, along with a compression test to see how she is feeling.

Recently repainted the gas tank and cleaned up the area under the hood. Looked like hell under, but was able to clean up the OG paint. Also installed my recently acquired Bikini top. Love this for the summer as it provides some shade from the sun, but allows the wind to pass through the car and not get all caught up in the rear area as it does with the windows ' down'. Running pretty good so far.
The family made a nice ice cream run over the weekend.... Liam feel asleep like usual.

The thing has been good to me this summer. So much better with the provided shade of the bikini top. Brakes have been a little subpar so I I ordered some shoes and wanted to freshen it all up.
Tossed her up in the air and yanked the caps.
Yanked the shoes.
Pulled the drums and dropped them off to get turned.
Been using Rockauto.com for all my maintenance lately, great prices, selection and delivery. These are centrix shoes, who even offer front thing only shoes. You can use the rears in the front, but the rears , of course, have the slot for the spreader bar. I was surprised to see the fronts were really made for the front.

Day #2 of having her back on all four. Drove it to work again today. Brakes are starting to bite better. I'll tighten up the shoes this weekend and see what happens. I notice the Ebrake sits higher then it was so I thats making me think that the rears def need some attn.

All these build threads do is show me how much of a hack I am! That is a clean thing! I'd prefer to support my flaps, but I usually don't get much confidence from the people in those stores, I'll check out rock-auto.
