Re: AoT's White Wonder
Got back to the Wonder today. Went to Ace and they only has the M6x1.0 with heads on so I took two (one as a backup). I was able to cut the head off and both ends threaded a nut. I also got lock nuts. I put the double nuts on the stud (snugged tight!!) and advanced the threads through the plate. The washer was easy on and after a few tries I got the locknut on the stud and seated the closed end of the wrench on it. Put the socket on the bottom nut and it all worked. Oil is topped off and looks likes it all holding tight and dry.

Not as intimidating as I thought it was going to be but small fingers did make it easier.

Back to business...
All is good with the oil sump. Took it for a spin and no leaks (yet!!). Had unused tires sitting in the '67 so i had them put on the rear wheels. One had a chronic leak so hope this solves that issue. After that I went and had an overdue inspection. Little issue on the way home as the front horn plate kept falling off so had to do a little repair. One plastic tab is worn so black duct tape is keeping it together.
Clutch was low so gave that an adjustment. It is fairly new and needed a tweak. Gave it a good wash to get the winter dust off but it is crying for a compound. The dirt is grimy and stubborn. Took it for a quick spin after the wash and it was made a squealing noise. Kept is running for 10 minutes to dry everything off by the engine.

Keeping my fingers crossed to get some miles on this puppy to meetings and shows.
Back to work tomorrow.

Re: AoT's White Wonder
Ever since I have been rolling the Wonder I have had a problem with the rear lights. Sometimes they didn't work, would work intermittently and then sometimes one bulb would function as the tail light, brake light and turning signal. The DS was more problematic while the PS was more consistent but the DS was always very dim. I thought the new brake switches might help with the dim bulbs but there was no change.
The lenses and light plates are pre-'67 style on a '74 body. This is the configuration when I got it. Under the lens there were 5 wires and only 3 were used on the light plate. Two were left hanging. After a long process of testing and discussion I uncovered the problem. No ground wires were hooked up by the PO, so tonight I ran new ground wires to the spade connectors on each side of the engine compartment though to the fixture. Fortunately there was a hole on the plate that I could run a wire through to screw on an eyelet. Gave everything a test and it works!! Bulbs are doing their job, brake lights are brighter and the turning signal runs off the top bulb only. YEAH for team work!!

The spring shows all the faults that the winter has wrought!
Sad to see this getting so bad....

so I went and got these new spring flings!! These are better quality.

Have to find some car cover for next winter and get busy on the compound and wax.

Nice. Amazing how one trim ring refreshes the look. Watch for dent free ones at the swaps...... The German ones are built to last.

Re: AoT's White Wonder
I would love to find a nice set Audrey, the metal ones now just don't hold up. I have a set of the plastic now on the bus. Problem is, even the Hella's feel like crap metal, I can't find plastic ones now, and the crap most places sell as triple chrome, is made to flash rust on first rain.
I would even re-chrome a set if I could find a nice set.

Re: AoT's White Wonder

Compounded the front fenders after dinner (shady and cool). It took alot of the surface dirt off but it still has the imbedded dirt. It feels much smoother but still needs work. Going to clean up some of the scratches and dings on the fenders and then wet sand it and polish and wax. These fenders are after market that I rattle canned and they need extra TLC. Today was yard work but hope to make tomorrow a car day!AoT wrote:Back to business...

Re: AoT's White Wonder
I have been trying to get the rear wheel wells cleaned up. The under coating has been peeling off and the wells look splotchy. Jacked up the rear and wire brushed, degreased and applied rubberized under coating. I did this on the front fenders when I switched them out in 2010.. I liked the way it looked.

A few years back I had put aftermarket "tarboards" in the engine compartment and they didn't hold up long. Due to the heat the ones on the side caved in so I took them out and gave them a spray of the undercoating to clean things up. Looks better and don't have to worry that the boards are getting caught in the engine. they weren't providing any sound proofing or sealing up the compartment so hopefully there will be little change!

BAH!
You painted the wires?!
Should've covered tem with tape or a bag.
Painting wires is one of those golden "damn PO" moves that makes finding and fixing issues in th future very difficult!
Else, the black looks nice.

After I wiped the tears away from this comment, I did a test. This is not a paint product just a coating so when I scraped my fingernail on one of the wires it exposed itself.ObnoxiousBlue wrote:BAH!
