Been swamped at work lately so not much has been done to the bus. Just been driving it. Have to see why I have an oil leak this weekend and give the bus a lot of cleaning. Also hope to add more pictures here

Are there any local stores on the island that sell air-cooled parts? looking to buy fuel lines , fuel filter, oil strainer, gaskets, etc. Or am i better off ordering online?

Fuel line you can buy at any FLAPS, get Gates Barricade. It comes in both carb and EFI variants. It is the only brand I haven't had leak yet. Gates is available at Advance, I'm sure others carry it too. Many rubber lines don't like the ethanol blended fuels we have now.
You can get a fuel filter there too, they're easy to come by. As for strainers, you don't need to replace yours unless it tears. Just replace the crush washers and cardboard gaskets when you do your oil. You should buy a few extra sets next time you're at the swap. Clean the old strainer with parts cleaner and you're good to go.
Pep Boys does carry the kits, at least my local one did when I had my 71. You might have better luck (for better quality) if you try Amity Foreign Auto Parts.
If you're in a bind, I'm sure someone here - or even Tony at GT - can get you going.
I have a type 4, so my filter is a canister. We rarely need to access our strainers.

Busy busy. You should try to make sure you're good for All Aircooled Gathering, it is the BEST show in the north-east and rivals some of the much larger shows I've been to down south.
Also, Transporterfest (and the camping in Salem)

Nice to see that you guys take the Seagrave out. We have a 1967 Sayers & Scovill, there's surely some pictures floating around on here of me with it at Bagels by the Bay or some of the shows.
I was on the inactive roster for about two years, and sadly in that time the officers sent the car to Boces for paint - I'm not happy. But that's a story for another thread.

Clean oil.

Oil is like religion, everyone has a different idea of what's best.

Oil needs to flow so too thick will cause your engine to run hot and will wear faster. I use 10W-30 since I have a low mileage engine. For higher mileage you can use a 10W-40. I would only use a 20W-50 on a very high mile engine with low oil pressure.

10/40 here. Unless I'm on the road and low, then anything I can get my hands on.
Bus never seems to mind.

My bus runs on 10w/40! I check the levels fairly often to be sure it doesn't get low.

Make sure you are using Ethanol rated fuel lines. I know GR has posted photos of his near-pristine rubber lines, but I have had the exact opposite with my bus. You can get Gates Barricade multi-fuel hose at almost all of the name brand FLAPS. I bought mine at Advance, it comes in two breeds: FI (rated for higher pressure) and non FI which is intended for carb cars.
Don't use the german braid that everyone touts as "period correct" use something that is going to keep your bus from going boom.

As for the engine seal, you can get that from any of the VW suppliers. I would check with Wolfsburg West or West Coast Metric first as they generally carry better quality rubber than other suppliers. WCM makes their own, so they have a direct hand on the quality control.

The bottom of that engine doesn't look terribly bad. It looks like you already replaced the plate and the cardboard there. Are you saying the oil is coming from the front of the engine?
