So, I was getting some good laughs from the photos of everyone posing with it! Tell wayne to put it back on the stand!
That exhaust system is getting ceramic coated next winter. At least the cross over pipe at the very least. Maybe a new collector, muffler and tailpipe.

Read your own signature.

"This is the DVG board. The threads flow as they flow.
Deal with it."

I thought we were a kinder, gentler DVG.

PS Glenn... love the avatar. Makes me chuckle.

This from the guy that once threatened me at a TOC show because i was a bad influence on some of the "members".

What happened to the Raj that was a "hard a$$"?

Think you took it out of context my friend. We all are evolving; hopefully for the better.

Wheels are done. Two pieces of tin and a missing pipe show up tomorrow. Will drop the Tom off at powder Monday am.
Expecting to have the car back mid next week.

Cool, hold it for me till the duck. The old one has to come off anyway. I'll have them take it down when it is at the body shop.

Ordered new tires... Genuinely had to think hard on this. I've been very happy with the local tire shop - All Weather in Huntington. They always served me right.
But they were selling the same tire for $119 mounted and balanced plus tax.
Folks on The Samba have been suggesting using SimpleTire.com and man, what a HUGE savings.
Got the same exact tire (5 of them) with shipping for $380!
That's like a $215 savings.

These are the new Hankooks - the replacement for the beloved RA08.
I don't love the new sidewall design - it seems a bit too "athletic" for me but the other option was a Yokohama (also a range D in 180/R14) but rather than try something new for the sake of the sidewall seemed like a silly non-calculated risk.

I can't believe you of all people would buy tires for your bus that are clearly made for a Van! + Side with that sidewall is it has groves to hold more tire shine !

The side wall looks sporty. The tire that this one replaced - the RA08 - had a very plain and undecorated sidewall that only said HANKOOK and RA08 in block letters.
I went with the 185's again, because after measuring I don't think the 195 would fit on the nose of the bus without moving the mount up a bit.
It is what it is. There's enough "newness" going on this year that I don't think the tires along will make the bus look too different.
It deserved it all though.

Well. The bus is back and feeling pretty good. I got it last week and got to put some miles on it to help things settle in, brought it back for them to replace the AAR (a fuel injected bus version of a high idle) as well as check the valves.
Have had it back for a little less than a week and things feel good. It sounds great at running speeds though the idle does sound high and that will have to be addressed.
Since this buildout went over budget I've scaled back on a few things but will follow through with everything that I already have.
As for the body work I'll only address the areas where rust is near perforating the body so as to not create bigger problems.
Like I said previously, the bus won't be looking its best at the Duck. In fact, without all it's hardware it looks perhaps the worst it ever has!
I do still have a weekends worth of work to do on it after it gets back from the body shop with everything I've gotten over the winter
  • Install my new ham radio. Haven't decide yet if I'm keeping the CB - but it also needs an antenna!
  • New powdercoated rear bumper (tow)
  • Powdercoated front bumper
  • Powdercoated Roo
  • Factory style hardware for impact strip delete
  • New jalousies with new seals and German edge guards
  • NOS tow mirrors
  • Refinished steel wheels
  • New RA18 Vantra tires
  • New ceiling panels (which I've yet to cut out)
  • I have a new head unit, speakers and kick panels too. I had wanted to add speakers in the back and middle too but that will have to wait.
