So i spoke to Art, one of the wrist pin clips broke and the wrist pin walked out and was touching the cylinder wall. He found the broken clip and will replace the cylinder and piston. There's no other damage.

Damn. What's your view on factory wrist Pins vs Teflon buttons? Anyone else have an opinion?

This was not a factory wire clip, it was a high quality internal snap ring.
SH!T happens.
Also the ZF is done and will be shipped today. So the tranny should be done soon.

3 years ago I worked on a engine that locked up. Once I disassembled it I found one of the wire wrist pin clips was missing and the wrist pin gouged into the cylinder way. There has a deep gouge and the pistons was partially melted from the heat. Also the connecting rod and crankshaft were warped and blue from the heat.
I was lucky that I was close to home. I drove maybe 1.5 miles with the sound.

I can handle a Chevy RWD automatic teardown/rebuild, but stickshifts have always intimidated me. This build looks really impressive!

Its a rainy day so i got busy.
I decided to get part of the carb linkage powder painted to match the tin.
Also had the intake manifolds media blasted and powder painted... clear. I think they look great.
Engine on the stand and the oil cooler on.
Full flow fittings.
Close up of the return fitting.
Pulley tin clearanced for the return fitting.
Hoover Bit on the oil cooler
I switched from the old BP6ES which has a 13/16 head to a BCP6ES which has a 5/8 head.
Cylinder tin
Very small gap
Head ports
Sleds
Small tins usually left off.
Header on.. what a PITA to get everything lined up.
Type 126 Industrial tins
I also removed the distributor, replaced the points, reshimmed the shaft and tested on my Sun machine... works like new.

Nice pics glen. Good move on clearing the intakes. When they are raw aluminum they really tend to absorb oil and grime as you work your way around the motor. I never knew they could powder clear!
