Casey Masterson

Post by ObnoxiousBlue »

The Masterson's home burned to the ground earlier this evening. The family was out at an event at the school when it burned but the pets, including Boone were all lost to the fire.
I would like to take up a collection for them, especially for Rylan and Harper who lost everything in the house.
I just spoke to Casey a few minutes ago, and they're in shock but are OK.
We obviously can't replace the house, and we can't bring back the pets.
But if you have anything to spare, I would like to see DVG send something to help the girls get back to normalcy.

For those who hadn't seen it, the house was stunning. It was an early 1800's colonial home that fit Casey, Denise and the girls perfectly - but it can, and will be replaced.

Lets use the "membership@dasvolks.com" account to start a collection.
I haven't seen any mention of a gofundme or crowdfund on TS, CJVWS or FB.
Frankly, I haven't seen much mention of it anywhere actually, and I don't feel I should take it upon myself to post it on the internet.
When/if a crowdfund opens up we will direct our funds there.

I posted about it in the mod forum on TS so when something shows we can sticky it. Probably too soon, word is just getting around.

Buckey sent a email to the CJVWS members.

I told him to check with Casey and if he's OK with it, to post on the Samba. We'll make it a sticky.

I came up with an idea of selling a NOS Bosch 010 distributor i've had for years to raise money. It's been sitting in a box under my workbench for years and honestly, i'll never use it. It will sell for way more than i paid and i'll have the buyer make the check to Casey.

Just trying to think of creative ways to raise more money than just a simple cash donation.
Hey Volks,

Some bad news was just shared with me and I wanted to pass it along to you all as I'm certain it will have the same effect on you all as it did me. Last night the Masterson's had a bad house fire that destroyed their home and took the lives of several of their family pets. Fortunately Casey, Denise, Rylan, and Harper were not home and weren't hurt. For any of you who know the Mastersons you know how much their pets mean to each of them and in a situation like this words really cannot describe how I'm sure they are feeling. Coupled with the loss of most of their belongings, there is a long road ahead to rebuilding and getting back to their lives.

I've received several calls from club members asking how they can make this time easier for Casey and his Family. Casey told me that neighbors and the Red Cross were already setting them up with clothes and some personal items and that they've secured a good place to stay until they get everything situated. Insurance should cover most of the physical damages but I'm sure it will take time to resolve. In the meantime, if any of you want to assist with supplies, things for his daughters, money, or words of encouragement it would go a long way I'm sure. Casey wouldn't ask for anything and I know he will get through this with or without our help, but if we can make this situation even a little less painful for such a kindhearted person in our fold it is worth the attention.

If anyone wants to send money and would feel more comfortable sending it to me via PayPal rather than giving it to Casey directly my account is mikebuckholtz@gmail.com

Casey's cell is 973-454-2024. I'm trying to get the address of where they are staying and will send it out soon.

Thanks,

-Bucky

Wow ! Thank God that didn't happen in the middle of the night when they were all sleeping.I can only imagine how quickly a 200 year old house can burn. Let us know what we can do.

Been speaking with Bucky, and he got the OK from Casey to start a Samba topic. We'll make it a sticky and then we can post a sticky here with a link to the Samba topic to keep everything in one place.

This news really set me back this morning. I recall just asking Mike recently about the house they restored. So sad on many levels. Really puts things in prospective.
I would like to contribute so just post up when you have the DVG info ready.

thanks.

I just spoke to Bucky. He's going to set up a post on TS and will send me the info tonight. Once I have it, I'll set an announcement here and will send a blast email. I'll likely still send a few gift cards, I'm sure Rylan and Harper lost things in the fire that adults think of as insignificant and wouldn't think to replace. Obviously they need to replace everything that most of us accumulate over time. When I spoke to Bucky, he also mentioned cards to Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, clothing stores for the girls, kitchen ware, etc.

More tonight.

My out of pocket is around $250. and i'll make it up with the next sale or two.

I knew about Casey's dedication to the VW community and found out about how he helps out with 4H and other services. He's given so much, so at his time of need we need to step up and help him.

I just wish other would post in the Samba topic and keep it on the first page of the forum.

Hey guys, can you post in the Samba topic? I'd like to keep it active so maybe others see it.

I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of activity.

Glenn - I posted on the Samba.

A gift card is on the way. Having had two girls who had a lot of stuff at his girls' age, I just keep thinking what life must be like for them in addition to losing their home and precious pets. Fortunately they can rebuild and make new memories but it is a long process and it is still a big loss to acknowledge!! Good wishes to them.

He alluded to something along the lines that 'they were starting the demo of his house'. Im not sure if that is read as complete knockdown or demo the damaged area. I hope to see him this weekend, so I'll shoot the breeze with him on it when I see and report back.
