It's Official....

Post by Glenn »

I'm retired (sort of).

My job of 24 years was sold to our "partner" and they greatly wanted to increase my workload. I discussed working fewer hours and we settled on me becoming a consultant and supporting one of my larger accounts.

So tomorrow is the first day of being technically unemployed since the 1976.

I think i'll sleep late and go for a bike ride.

Actually i'll be doing some work for my one client, still rebuilding distributors, doing some engine work and maybe working here and there at the bike shop. I'll also be able to spend more time with my mom helping her with her medical issues. And then there's a new addition coming late July.

So i'll be plenty busy.

I just figured after seeing 3 of my childhood friends passing away and never reaching retirement, I should take advantage while my health was still good.

Maybe i'll take up golf..... nah rather ride my bike.

Happy news for you Glenn. Some people find they are busier in retirement but with none of the hassles of an employer. You've worked hard for many years now its time to play! No alarm clock tomorrow :D
Keep working at it and it gets done!!

I wish... I go to morning services Monday and Thursday @ 6:30am I worked the past few days @ GT and was there at 8:00am. With the hot weather coming, i'll be up at day break hitting the road and trying to get back before it gets hot.

But i might catch a few afternoon ball games at Citi Field.

Jamie is already worried that i'll be there all the time. I told her to just give me a key so I don't have to wake her up ;).

Why don't I believe that?

From what I hear, some retired people wonder how they did all they did when they were still working. They don't have enough time in the day for what they still do. Somehow I doubt you'll lead a sedentary retirement.

Enjoy it. I'm happy for you! (and looking forward to my own retirement one day)

Congrats on retirement, I've got a long road ahead of me but one day I hope to join the club

My parents retired a couple months before I made them grandparents and they seem to be loving it.

What did you do for 24 years?

My last job was 24 years... i'm a mainframe systems programmer. I've been working on mainframes since 1973 when i was a operator and still in high school. I rode my bike to work and saved up enough money to buy a new Beetle in 1974.
