from sitting out for the past 8 years the window regulators were real shitty and rusty. The other day I went to roll down the windo and something snapped. Doing some research, what the cal llok glass guys do it upgrade to the older style (68ish) window regulators with two contact points onthe glass. This give it better grib on the glass, making it easier to rioll up and down.
Lucky for me.... i'm so loved by my car club.... a fellow DVGer helped me with the part. i'll swap out the other side as well.

Late start this morning...... I dont quite bounce back after a few blue moons and stoli 7's like i used to.
I recented ordered 5lbs of gloss black powder, and I was wating for a nice free weekend day to head over to Don's to do some work. My intent was to do the ghia's rims, but she was being a bitch this morning an wouldnt fire up. So I left her to be ashamed of herself and decided to do the baja's rims.
blasted the front rims and I yanked the tires, and revealed old school wagon style white baja rims with the blue/ red stripe.
400 degrees and ten minutes later

the tires that were on the front were way too wide and rubbed the fenders at lock to lock. I had these old school bug M&S ( mud and Snow) tries laying around. One has some nasty wear pattern but will work for now. Ideally I'll get something taller, swap season is upon us, so no rush. I still have to do the back rims.
The bead is leaking so I gotta get some tire sealer
I love black rims on 'off road' style vehicles.

Did you put some lube on the bead when you mounted them ? I always put some soap on the bead before mounting the tire . My ATV tires leak all the time from the beads from running such low tire preasure 3-4lbs. . Rocks and sand get between the bead and the rims causing leaky beads . PITA .
I was being tough on Don's old school tire machine. He said he almsot never uses anyhting on the bead, but on ooccasion if its a dented or rusty tire or wheel, he said to use the tire sealant. I;ll get a tube/ can of the crap this week and take care of it soon enough. Its all about learning.
Thanks.... i like the skinnys too. I do wish they were talled tho. The baja has an adj beam so let me get on it and see how high she'll go. From there, I'll look for taller tires, like the ones we spoke about in the mags.
In the meantime, I have LED taillights and turn signals coming in the mail from Chirco. I got just get this motor running, iron out some residual wiring and she should be good to go. Maybe she;ll make her debut in Ctown

not this time.......i havent even driven it yet. My LEDS should be here 4/1/09, and still need to iron out a few issues. Then I can put it on the road.

Last time I had it on the road the tranny was making a funny noise in neutral. I wanted to clean up some crap by the tranny mounts anyway, so I yanked the motor, and trans.
I replace the tranny with one I pulled from a running parts cars. I had to swap nose comes tho.
While in there, I fixed one stud that was so rusty the nut wasnt able to be threaded.
I'll see if I can slap this bitch back together before work tommorow.

This morning I installed the tranny and motor. I gonna still wire up the motor and take her for a ride to see if she will work for a while.

Progress has been slow lately, and this weekend I was away in AC for a Bachelor party. Time away doesnt help the Dub projects.
The tranny is all buttoned up and I took her for a ride around the block. Seems ok, shifts fine, but hard to drive with the real small steering wheel. Carb is a big issue.. wont idle. I'll deal with that later as i have a few carbs coming from Keifernet. Front tire still has a slow leak... bastard!
I'm still plugging away ( no pun intended... well.. maybe) at the wiring. I wired the front parkers and signals. Its all good.

I bought rear LED lollipops a few weeks ago, and wasnt sure where to mount them. I like the idea of the cage mount, but all like my shit kinda stealth looking so I didnt want the light 'way out there'. Also, bajas/ and buggies are great ' test' cars for motors as the motor comes out in a flash when the cage isnt mounted. That being said, I'm gonna use this car to test out a few other engne combo's I have in the works. So... i might not always have the rear cage on, so I wanted the light off the cage. I wast too keen on the school bus clearance lights that i converted to brakes/ parkers/ and signals i had on there, so they got yanked. The LED's were mount in front of where the dual would normally sit. It widely accepted that Buggies/ bajas ideally should use single mount carbs bc of there typical off road abuse and since I plan on running a weber progressive, I'm ok and the mounting locatation for the lights was fine.
And yes.. they are bright
The biggest issue I had with the wiring was the fact that VW used one bulb per operation for the rear. ( IE. brake/ signal/ parking lights) I wanted to use a LED equivalent of the dual filament bulb to serve both the blinker and stop lights. This set is would on most older US cars. When stopped and have the signal on, one stay on steady, while the other rear flashes. I almost have it set up correctly, and incorporated the hazard function, but i'll come back to it from its current set up if it really bothers me. I have plently of other more pressing issues to deal with for now.

Thanks bro.... we threw in a few small trees last weekend, and I thatched the $hit out of the lawn. I'm hoping she comes in nice this this year. I love a well groomed yard, especially when I do it my self.

ah yes... facebook. I was in the garage cursing as I normally tripped over all the crap in there, so the wife came out to see if I was still alive. After she found that I was, and she couldnt collect any insurance money, she asked WTF my problem was. I explained how I cut the hot wire to the brake light switch and was just pissed off. So .. like a good wife, she grabbed the wire crimpers and solderless connectors from my hand, and went to town in fixing the wire by adding a pigtail. Damn thats sexy.

i was getting too pissed off at the slow leak I had in the stock size MS tires I have on the front. So upon doing some research on TS, I hear that they like to run 7.00 *15 tires up front. I figured I'd give them a try... found a new set on TS for a hunny.

Since the front rims have such offset, I'll have clearance issues with the big meats upon compression
