Do it during the summer so he can wear that dirty white tank top.
Mike will have to control himself. The sight will make him extremely..... nauseous.

No doubt the guy knows stuff, I just don't like the way he goes about things. And yes, some of his "methods" are a little suspect.
He's not the VW messiah he likes to be presented as. I'd rather work on the busses with my friends here, but that's my personal opinion.

Like driving from Atlanta to New York on 3 cylinders just to prove you can?

Re: Home away from Home, on wheels.
I'm not involved enough in TheSamba side of the lifestyle to know people's personalities. I suspect, it's much the same there as in some respects here. I'm not looking to be best friends with the guy, and while I think my bus could stand to have a good to through with someone who has knowledge on the bus, Im also sure that there are things on my bus that need attention even though they are working "fine."
If I'm ever in a bind though, I'm sure I would rather see my money go to the repair rather than getting him out here to work on the bus.

No Mike, you misunderstand Colin's thing. He doesn't come out and fix your bus. You pay him to teach you how to do it.

I placed my words poorly. I knew what his routine is. I just was trying to avoid using the vernacular "preying on innocent bus drivers"

Re: Home away from Home, on wheels.
Bus went back to the body shop today

Chipping away at my to do list before the season...
Powdercoated wheels
New Hankook RA09 185/75/R14C tires
New Koni shocks on all corners
Powdercoat the bumpers, roo bars, and overriders
New front door panels
New (properly oriented) thrid brake light
New front door seals, and new rear hatch seal
Other small projects were mentioned earlier in my thread... I do them as time permits.

Re: Home away from Home, on wheels.
Spoke to the painter... Going to leave the mirror bungs alone. As they are the "high spot" on the door, the only alternative if I wanted them cleaned up would mean painting the entire upper half (at least) of the door. For something that's mostly covered, he suggests just sanding it clean with some 220 and using waxoyl or POR15 brushed in place before the plastic inser goes back in.
I'm going to do the seam sealer, just because it makes life easier.
The windshield graft is coming from BusDepot, and will be here Weds am. The bus is at Masterweld now (same guy that did all Reise's metal work, I was VERY happy and wish he was around when my battery fell out a few weeks ago)
Gary is going to start cutting the old, rusted pinch weld out tomorrow.
Ordered the new wiper arms, caps, bushings, shaft to body grommets, and new washer hose today.
Windscreen has some chips, Gary suggested I call All Island Auto Glass tomorrow, he doesn't think they'll fill the 5 chips, he thinks they'll just replace the windscreen. New or old, I'm not too worried. It's not that bad...

Mike get all the new metal in painted and sealed. Then get the new glass and seals put in. Do it once do it right. If all island can't get the glass try Safelight they should be able to get it for you might take a couple of days. Warehouse is right in Commack.
