Picked up the fixings to get the fuel tank I picked off the other bus cleaned and sealed. Seems that the new name for Metal Ready is Prep and Ready, but I went for the original container. Salesman was too quick with his answer, and the new name sounds like the stuff you take for a colonoscopy!
Looking to have the engine remove/fuel tank install tech session on March 25 if some of you can make it. this is not a "wonder woman" project!!

Need some manly men!

That stuff's called bisacodyl. The metal prep solution would likely have the same effect, but taste better.
If I were closer I'd be there!

Could not resist the beautiful day and lack of attention that the wonder has been getting to give it a good wash. It has been sitting idle since the bus engine got pulled and needed some TLC. Have been taking it around town and getting some compliments!!

You certainly didn't pay any attention to it.

Nope, it just sat against the fence. It was given to me, with the promise that if I didnt use it, Id pass it along. I did just that!

While working on the stereo "protect" mode issue, found that there was water under the paint on the DS under the mat. Took a wire brush to it and letting it air out. No more mats for awhile until I get this sorted out!

Well, I put some paper towels down on the DS floor under the pedal cluster to see whats going on with the brake line. Sure enough when I hit the pedal some fluid showed. It seems to be in the spot where the brake line rests on the floor under the pedal and there is some rust there so must have comprised the line. also the reservoir for the rear brake fluid was bone dry so I had to refill it to get it to leak so that confirmed the problem.
Need to order the line to get it fixed and get this poor neglected vw on the road again.

its a common issue, and not a fun repair. that back t fitting will test your flexibility!
Good to see her get some attention she deserves!

You could just cut out the bad section and splice in a new length of hardline.

How do the two new ends connect? Do I have to flare one and then use a compression fitting to connect? If thats the process, I could cut it on a straight run and then go new to the master cylinder.
Thoughts on my master mechanic suggestion?
When the line it out it would give me a chance to work on that rusted section.

right-o. Compression fitting to join old to new. Or buy the full length and replace the whole thing

Got the brake line out and the DS floor is prepped with POR. Going to give it a coat of undercoating to sealnany tiny holes and then a fresh coat of black satin. Hoped to get the new line in this weekend.
Pics to follow.

Got the new brake line in. Its a little bit of a roller coaster but no crimps in the line. Ran out of daylight so was not able to get the fittings tightened. Need to order some patience to finish this project.
