The underside of the front fenders still looks good.

Gotta be careful with undercoating. In many cases after a few years it cracks and allows water to get trapped behind it. Creating a far worse senario than just leaving alone with paint.

That blue wire sure would look nice running through a rubber grommet.

Jay is correct. Use regular paint. I'm not a huge fan of undercoating.

Yeah, quality helps. But in your case that's 15 years on a car that spends most of its time safe in a garage. Away from the rain and crud its supposed to protect against. It destroyed my Camaro. I've seen numerous others much older than mine, driven under the same conditions. The only difference being they didn't get the Rusty Jones treatment and were still in far better shape. It's very misleading stuff. The metal can get destroyed underneath and you'll have no idea it's happening.

It has nothing to do with the lack of exposure, its the product you use.

Some undercoat it rather thick and foamy. The product I used is very thin and does not crack.

Getting the Wonder ready for winter. Gave it a wash today and going to get a cover to keep it under wraps from the snow and winter crap that falls on the driveway. Next month will be 7 years since I brought it home. It's been a great adventure!!

Finally got the front tires off the bug as they seemed to need a regular fill of air every few weeks. Got the valves replaced, the rims cleaned up, and re-balanced. Don't like it sitting over the winter on flat rubber. Also this year I am going to try and give it a roll every couple of weeks to avoid flat spots. Took the roof rack off to get the winter cover on but I want to give it a good run before that happens, get the tank filled and give it a little boost of something to keep it fresh over the winter.

Then, when I did a walk around over the weekend one of the rears is pulling the same non-sense so I will take both and repeat the process and hopefully get this resolved for the long run!!

This week was the 7th anniversary of rolling this puppy home from GA!!

:P

Wow, last post was 18 months ago!

Today dropped the bug off the jack stands. I had raised it last year to take pressure off the tires as there are slow leaks on two of them even though I had them redone! I think the rims must have some uneven edges and are not sealing. Any solution for that?

Well did't get to drive the bug last year so it has been sitting. I connected the battery and after a few cranks it turned over!! Yayy!! Let it idle to warm up and then took it for a spin around the block. Such a fun car to drive and its has good power. Took it for a run close to home as it needs to be inspected and get the current regi sticker on.

The horn apron on the steering wheel is all out of whack and those spring clips are shot so have to work on that and some other inside maintenance. Might have to set up a separate horn switch like I did the on bus to have a usable horn. One of the visor brackets cracked so removed the visor to avoid any damage. (anyone have a spare bracket?) Got some bubbly paint so that will be on the to-do list.

Hope to get the Wonder to a meeting soon.

:P

I have used fix a flap on some rims with slow leaks when in a real bind. They say it not ideal... take it for what its worth. They have that newer green 'slime' as well.... never used it in auto app. Did seal up my mower tire with it.

The right way to fix it.... fill it up and hold under water in a kiddie pool etc. You need to find the leak. Hopefully bad valve. If not, thee tire install can hit the inner rim with a flap wheel or disc to clean up the mating service before mounting. I always ask them to use tire mount sealant on shitty rims to make sure they hold. Be warned, it can look not so pretty. Worse case... bad tire with small cracks that is letting air out.

if the wheel is pitted along the rim dismount the tire wire brush the rim where the tire seats and apply some bead sealer and remount tire. you really need to take the tire off the rim to inspect the tires if you have a concern. if you need a hand or want to drop them off I can look at them /fix for you. or bring them tomorrow and you can pick them up from my place or the new meeting.

Probably take you up on the offer but have to get the bug inspected first before the drive over. Expired in 2015! :o

Thanks,

Friends,

The time has come for my "Final Chapter" of the White Wonder. I will be putting up some postings to sell it in the next few weeks so if anyone knows of any interested party, let me know.

It has been a great journey, and hopefully it will get to live another day!
