Mike, I know you mentioned something about a secondary battery and I'm not quite sure how that is hooked up, but in my camper, you only get 110 when you are hooked up to a power source through an extension cord (there is a hookup on the outside of the bus).

Yeh Rob, I dont know if there is a switch somewhere or what to alternate between power sources. I dont think so, seeing as there are 2 additional 12v plugs on the base of the Zbed. I ha dplugged the bus int the 110 via an extension cord and had no power into the bus when i tried to plug in a stereo. So Im not sure whats going on yet. When its back and running tip top Ill play with it in a garage and see whats happening.

Mike I have two batteries hooked up in my bus. One battery is dedicated to starting the bus the other is for the stereo amd the tv for the kids and other stuff. but when I drive both batteries are charged.

Under the Z Bed there should be a silver box. There's a fuse in there. Check that

mike are you looking for 110 volts when it is plugged in or to generate 110 when the vehicle is running, i.e a converter?

My brand new 22 foot camper doesn't even have it's own power unless it's plugged in . Do vw campers have inverters normaly ? Good call on the fuse location Rob . That would be My guess also .

So what happened with the Camper? Did you send it back to the seller?

So the bus is down at GT still, I couldnt bring myself to send it back when I would be losing so much money. (shipping here, shipping back, the bill from GT, and all the little shit we got for it)

With that said the dealer that I bought it from is sending a used engine, hopefully this one fares better than its now stagnant counterpart.

Today I come home, and while relaxing a bit before class tonight a freight truck arrives at my house... Engine? Negative...

Its the 10 foot awning I bought back in my haste to get this thing to Florida...

So now I have an awning, and no bus yet lol.

Manny, I bought it to drive to Florida! I REALLLLY wanted to camp out down there.

Brad, its staying. I will be at BBTBD this year with a 77 Bay, and it WILL be the hang out to beat... All the cool kids will be there. With is super huge awning and all...

i agree, Mike. Slap the POS used motor in there and when you get some cash together, we'll rebuild the other one.

The engine was advertised to have 125-130psi, but when it arrives both #1 and #3 had only 30psi. The cam was measured and had less than half the normal lift .190(Intake).210(Exhaust). So the cam is flat and the engine needs to be split open and the cam replaced. As you know parts and labor for a Type 4 is way more than for a Type 1.

..... i think there was an issue with a flat cam as some rockers have minimal lift. i hope we get to rebuild the t4 as my vw knowledge base is pretty much limited to t1 and id like to expand my skillset.

Raj... the seller is sending another engine so Mike will have the old one. As a group project we can split the case and find if there's any collateral damage. Then we can decide what's needed to rebuild it.

Did anyone look to see if the motor had been converted to hydraulic lifters?
Hydraulic lifters in a T4 engine are notorious for causing problems. The fix could be as simple as converting it back to solid lifters.

The lift was measured at the cam with the lifters removed.

I think what the guy meant is when you add compression of each of the cylinders together it's 125 to 130PSI.
