I just ordered the rest of the parts needed.

fuel pump and pushrod
tranny mounts
ignition wires
spark plugs
hardware
throwout bearing

We need to get some engine oil... 3 quarts and a gallon of gear lube

I stopped by AoT's, she's been a busy lady. All the tin is cleaned and painted. I took the fan shroud and backing plates home so I could put together the alternator/fan assembly.

Here's some more pics. I got all the tins cleaned and painted and cleaned out the fins around the cylinders with an air compressor. One side still has the cover attached so got out as much as possible. Used a bench wire wheel to clean up the mainfold connections and shine them up a bit. The ones on the engine also need a good cleaning so I'll use the wire wheel on a drill. Nice to have some good tools!!

Funny thing is I didn't what a red one but it was the only one on the lot and the price was right.

After 35 years, I think i'm finally OK with the color.

Thanks Gary. It's fun to see things taking shape.

It doesn't matter where you are, what matters is the direction you're going! I think we're going forward!

My Guys:
I am just trying to avoid having all of you on my speed dial when the bug decides to crap out. (I will be taking phones numbers just in case). I have complete trust that you won't "steer" me wrong!

Ready when you are Manny!

Spent some time working on getting the rest of the clean up done. Worked on the open side of the cylinders to clean up the connections so except for doing a cleanup on the clutch plate I made some progress.

Gave another hit with the wire wheel and then took on the exhaust pipe and oil bath to see if I could get the surface rust off. The exhaust pipes cleaned up ok on the top side, just have to tilt the engine to get the under side. I gave them a coat of black satin just to keep the moisture out. Not bad for a once over. The oil bath cleaned up pretty nice so I gave it it of paint also.

See what a little TLC can do!

Also gave the pulley a little polish to make it shine. Even though you like to see carnage I am happy to report no bodliy injuries from the wire wheel. Did enough damage last year!
