I like the antenna shot as well. At first I thought it was your flag pole!!

Theres been some real good shots of the bus this summer... I think they kinda get the aura of what a VW bus stands for... I like how the sky is open and blue, the little antenna ball adds some levity, and the flag poking out in the back is a nice touch
How fast time flies... It was a year ago now that Peabody made his voyage from Colorado here to NY.
Im SO happy that I kept this bus, and look forward not just to our journey to Daytona, but to another awesome summer spent with friends on the beach, in the woods, or on the road.

Does anyone have a chrome trim ring for a 15" wheel? GA is welding up Peabody's new Roo Bars, and Id like to flip the spare on the nose, repaint the wheel, throw a whitewall on it and hubcap/trimring on to dress up the nose.
I know I can get them online, but I dont want to buy a whole new set if someone has a set laying around.
LOL Not on yet... The bus is 'at a friends house' he's a pertty skilled welder and is going to work his magic. He's working on a disconnect for it, so that it can pop on and off as I want.
I couldnt find the reversal kit to flip the front mounted spare 180* but one of the guys on the samba 'made his own'
Im just trying to figure if this 'method' will place undue stress on th nose of the bus. In a PM with another TS'er he thinks not so long as the wheel is 'snug' up against the nose of the bus (as it is now) and not "suspended" or hanging out on the front by the threaded line.
Those of you who are 'engineeringly skilled' whats your take?
Do you have a picture of the front of the bus without the tire on, that would be helpful. I agree though that if it is snugged up against the front so i can't move it should be no worse than before. But then again my degree is in electrical engineering.
Oh look a D rated spare. At least it had the right tires one time in it's life!
Spare tire bracket. Mike those 1/2"-13 thread extensions will not work with the factor studs on your spare tire mount. The mount has the same thread as your lugs. The only way to use those would be to remove your bracket and change the studs to 1/2"-13 bolts. Second none of that hardware shown above is grade8.
The tow tabs on the front need to go to make way for the mounting brackets.

I strapped the bar in place just to see where things line up. The tire could stay in its backwards position with the cover over it or you could flip it around and roll with a hubscrap on the front. I don't think it effects the bar installation. Have a look.
GA the tire will be in the exact same location when it is turned around. Do they make metric hardware that I can use to legthen those studs and turn it around?

Grade is the strengh rating of fasteners. 1/2"-13 would probably be fine. But those female extensions shown in the pic won't match up to the thread that is curently on the bus.
Anyway. according to my calculations. If you leave the tire the way it is now you probably won't have to lower the roo bar to get the spare off. If you flip the spare the longer studs will require you to lower the roo bar out of the way to remove the spare. Regardless the bar will be made to be lowered.
Mike I was hoping to hear you thoughts on how it looked?!? I used a 2X4 to give me some room between the bar and the tire. So there is an 1 1/2" between there. I guess the only change I could make would be to have less space there.
Oh yea and someone photoshop someone of those big ass offroad lights on there
So what size extensions would I need the GA? I was talking to Richie and he even suggested using a few extra nuts as jam nuts to keep things nice and snug. But his (more mechanical mind than mine) thinking was that so long as it is set snug up against the front of the bus it shouldnt put any more stress on the mount than if the tire were installed in the 'backwards' fashion.
The roo bar looks sweet. It'll look great done up in white to match the bumpers, and will be a nice place to mount a CB antenna lol
The studs would only need to be extended the depth of the wheel, Maybe 6" or so. Anyone know the thread size of a bay lug? I'm not to worried about the tire. It is already mounted and it can be flipped at a later time with very little effort. Also the tire should be bolted up with the same size hardware as your lugs so you don't need any special tools to get it off. Just a lug wrench or 4 way. If you forget you tool bag or toss it in another car having different hardware on the spare could pose a problem.

I felt like welding it to the frame and calling it a day last night. I sliced my head open on the front plate. Didn't feel like posting the carnage either.
