Good news, the hardline in the body is fine... it's not clogged.
I also found out the car has a "fuel injection" tank, so the 5mm hose I had didn't fit, it needs 7mm.

What condition was the tank in? Why the difference between a fule injection and non fuel injections tank??

The tank was in good shape. Some brown residue but a few tanks of gas will handle it. I'll be sure to change the fuel filter after the first tankful.
The FI tank as a second fitting for the fuel return. The real problem is the FI use 7mm hose when the carb tank used 5mm. So i couldn't put the hose on from the tank to the body.

the more we unravel this bug the more "mutt like" it becomes. The disharge out of the hardline was nasty!
Pulled the tank out and got a look of what was underneath. GR found that the steering damper was not connected so dug out a 10mm nut and now it's bolted in place. good catch!
Moving along...

No.. the car is a 74 and came with a carb... so the hardline is 5.5mm.
Mix-n-match parts, you have to expect it with these cars.

gotcha... so do fueli cars have larger lines in the tunnel from the factory? And two of them?

Yes... two larger.
Fuelie cars have a fuel loop where there's a high pressure pump and whatever the engine doesn't use is dumped back in the tank.

I've seen the pictures you take of me and the "crotch" shots are not my best side.
Or maybe it is.

It is a better view than a "crack" shot that have made their appearance at other tech sessions, but I don't dare post the crotch shot of the Pirate!!
PS: Got rid of the nasty brew from inside the tank and I'll pick up a few gallons of fresh stuff for the next crank!!

How do you connect a 7mm line from the tank to the 5.5mm hard line in the tunnell??

use one of those little plastic fuel filters, they accomodate both hose's sizes.

Just use a 7mm FI hose and 2 hose clamps on the body side.

I normally use the smaller hose in one end and the bigger hose in the other end
in this case I would use 7 mm coming out of the tank to the filter, and 5mm coming out of the other end of the filter into the hard fuel line running into the car.

Fuel filter is by the tranny.

I used another at the front right under the tank,
now if you're not too crazy about having two fuel filters, you can cut the end of the filter and use the piece you cut off as a step up/step down to used both size hoses

I repalce my fuel lines once a year, once every two years and I repeat the process all over again, I have all my cars like that becase of either electric fuel pumps or dual carbs with bigger size lines.
