I was the one who installed the coupler in Peabody when the new tranny was put in.

Not sure what could have happened, I know i tightened it and installed a safety wire but ....

Not your fault Kenny! I think it was the part, the one I got from Bus Depot wasn't the best one. Ill call Wolfsburg West today.

Had posted a WTB ad on TS looking for a trip odometer speedo for the bus, would like to have the odometer to better gauge my mileage as my gas gauge has a mind of its own even after replacing the flat/sending unit last year. I got a hit today, and not only does the guy have a trip odometer speedo, but has a nearly new cluster for a late bay, including a tach, which we all know I now need after last weeks little 'incident' LOL He wants 50 for everything, which sounds good to me. The question I have is, the speedo gauge he has which he says came out of a 77 bay, the part number on the back is 311 XXX XXXX Which I think means its freom a Type 3. I dont think they are interchangeable, am I right? Additionally, Since his speedo goes to 110, (Someone had a sense of humor) and my bus's only goes to 90 would that mean it would be inaccurate?

Can someone talk me through taking out my ignition cylider lock? I called Gabriel, and gave him the code from the rear hatch. He cut the key, and (as I asked) he emailed me a pic of it before cutting a second key. The key he cut to code has two variances. I'm unsure if this is due to my current key being cut from copies of copies of copies, or if its due to the code on the rear hatch cylinder being wrong due to the lock being rekeyed.

If anyone can fill me in, itd be appriciated.

I was approached a few months back by a friend of busbq Bill's who wanted to use Peabody in a photo shoot for her engagement, as well as wedding. We worked out the details, and last weekend put the plan in motion. We met up at the Muttontown Preserve, surrounded by big old trees, and an old horse stable/field. She hired a professional photographer to come out and shoot the day. We put the bus in the middle of the field and they couple to be struck up what must've been a couple thousand photos to chose of the best to make it into their wedding book, the register book, and the wedding day pictures. Heres a couple fun ones that the bride just posted up on facebook. Theres TONS more with a real beautiful sunset, the changing leaves and barren trees, and an old rickety fence that ran along side the bus.

Don't tell her fiance but I think she really has her heart set on "Samba Joe" .

LOL ..If she wanted pictures with a nice Splitty toy, I could have provided a dozen or so to her..

Spent my day tinkering on a few small items on the bus, in between going on calls at the Ambulance corps. Theres been a few things I wanted to do/get and a few things that I found int he last week or two that I had to add on too...

I started with replaceing the taillights on the bus. A few weeks back my friend Alex was driving behind me when he said there was 'something moving inside the light' now that sounds silly but he was right! There was a TON of water in the lenses! I look them off, and poured some of it out, but couldn't get it all. I called over to bus depot, who had VW OG lenses, for only $22.00 each! These aren't like the crappy MAM ones, theyre NICE. They have the reflectors in them, and the reflector cones around the bulbs too. Very nice quality. I got those on the other day. I picked up some hose used for washer fliuid on wiper arms, and slit it down the middle to make a little bit of a more substantial seal around the lense, and it looks real nice too. I replaced all the bulbs with long life Phillips bulbs, and cleaned all the contacts. They shine so much brighter now, and look great!


Theres been alot of talk of third brake lights too, so I went looking around online, thinking it would be nice to have, and seeing as my bus is nice, and original looking, but not a purist to originality by any means, there would be no harm in adding a third lamp.
I found a nice unit on JCW. Im not really a huge fan, but I saw one on a friends FireChicken, and it was nice quality. So for $16 I ordered it. It also needed a 'third brake light control unity' which is essentially there to differentiate between directional use, or braking. Because just connecting the new third lamp to one side's 'brake' light would make the third brake light also flash when the blinker is on. It affixes right to the window with a double sided tape banding around the outside of the light.
Its supposed to be here tomorrow... but this is it...


I also ordered one of those little fuel gauge reminders than John posted. My gauge is always funky, and its a nice little accessory. Good quality, and kinda fun to play with lol I put it on the steering wheel bracket right under the gauge pod. Its a good place because the "unleaded fuel only" sticker is right on top of it lol


Lastly, I had bought a new radio for the bus. The old one was out of my 69 Bay, and had been finiky then! I picked up a basic Alpine with AM/FM, CD, MP3, and aux jacks for $120 (gotta love Black Friday!) I installed it today, and sorted through a few messy wires under the dash. I got an aux fuse 'box' that I put under the dash. It gets power from the auxilliary battery in the back, and supplies power to the CB radio, my UHF radio (for Commack), my red dash light, and the stereo. All things that I tend to use when the car is 'off' and not wanting to kill my battery (or my points) Id rather drain the coach battery and be able to drive home.

so thats where bernices radio went!!!!!! arrrrrrrrrr....

Is that stereo a JVC with a usb port ?

Tom, its a Alpine deck. and yeah, it has the USB and the AUX jack on the front.

Dont you have separate brake lights and turn signals? if so, I dont think you need the 'third brake light control unity'

bernice is enjoying her " retirement" out in the back 40. put out to pasture if you would... still all intact. dont have the heart to part her out. maybe someday she will be resurected, i hope bay windows will be the next " split windows" some day... gersons starting to make panels for them....... i guy can hope right?????

Mike you dont need the third brake light control unit.. your directionals are independant. older buses would need that if you didnt want to run a wire from the front..

You know Raj and Bill... I sat here (seriously, right where I am now, I sat when I ordered the damn light) and thought to myself 'Are my turn signals and brake lights separate?' I never see the back of my own car! I distinctly remember Bills bus (a bus I am often driving behind) having single turn/tail lights and I thought 'I MUST need it!' But I just realized, I have orange turn signals! Which means They MUST be separate! D'OH! Oh well, an easy return I presume! LOL Chalk that one up to an I D 10 T move!

Thats the bus that started it all for me! It got me through a winter. (I have no clue how, and still often wonder how in all hell that bus managed to drive to work everyday, and stop...) Take a picture one day, would love to see her chillaxn'! Tell Timmy I say hi too! LOL
