Just tell me what needs to be done. I'll pass the message to him and through unknown powers he'll fix it by just thinking about the problem. Think WWLD?Glenn A wrote:I've got a ton of projects for Uncle Leo!williamblanda wrote:All he has to do is look at it and it's fixed!

Wow, seeing it roll after some of the bumps this year makes it very, very special. Thanks for the visual GA!!Glenn A wrote:One year to the day the whitewonder returns and leaves My place under it's own power! Congradulations AoT.

Noticed the headlight and taillight were out before I left but could not keep destiny waiting. They both were working after I put the rear fender on bc I specifically checked to be sure I had the wires on correctly, but since it has been bumping along some connections might need to be tightened. I know the wiring in the front was morphed for a casette deck (anyone one have tapes??

It was not optimum driving weather at noon, but the heat did work, as did the wipers but can't locate the rear defroster switch/knob so had to drive with the windows cracked. No working driver window so opened the fly and the passenger fly wouldn't open so had to roll down that one. There is also a fume issue that was noticable. another reason to have the windows open. GA thought we might get giddy so have to figure out if that relates to the heater boxes or something else.
Getting to learn its little quirks, likes a short delicate shift into 2nd otherwise it has a little grind going, but I'm sure that part of the syncho issue to be addressed at a later date. Had some fun with it today even with the lousy weather. It was humming on SSP and once its on the open road it runs nice and smooth. Not bad for 35+ years. I'll jack up the rear and post some pics so we can see what the issues/options are with the rear suspension .
Well as the proud owner of this VW for 1 year, thanks to this gruppe for making it happen. You pushed me when I needed that kick in the a$$ and I'm glad that I got to celebrate today. Can't wait to see what the next year brings!!
Keep working at it and it gets done!!

Defroster switch is under the dash to the left of the steering column. It's a rectangular rocker switch.

You gotta admit a reel to reel would have been cool.

Re: AoT's White Wonder
Hang onto the the tapes. The casette deck doesn't work and it flops around in the slot so it needs some CPR. as does some of the other wiring.
Manny:
Are those the tapes you found? Don't see any music listed so it must be a grab bag of goodies!!

No that was just a random picture I found on google to point out what kinda tapes they were, there seemed to be a some confussion going on weather or not there were 8 tracks or cassettes.AoT wrote:Hang onto the the tapes. Re: AoT's White Wonder
The wonder of it all...
Tried to get the wonder started last night to move it out of the garage since the refrigerator was moving to its new owner (got a great deal and dinnner to boot, thanks buddy!!) and it was dead, not even a little cough! I know its been cold, but its a new battery. It does not appear I left anything on, but Is there a possibly that there is something electrical drawing down the battery and if so how can I determine what is doing this number. Currently having the issues with the half lights not working (related maybe) and don't want to have to keep jumping it.
also have to jack up the rear and take a look since after we rolled it out of the garage there was a fresh spill and I'll take some pics to see where its leaking from. Wish is was warm weather again!!

Re: AoT's White Wonder
Electrical draws can be a PITA to find but the best way is to connect a amp gauge between the battery and the positive cable. That will show any draw. Then remove all the fuses (mark what went where) and check for any current flow. If none, then add a fuse at a time and recheck. When you find which one is causing the amp gauge to register we'll need to checkout the schematic and see what's on it.
Just last week my son needed a jump and his battery was only 6 months old. He found the front left door switch was letting the dome light to go on even with the door closed. He just switched the dome light so its always off and we'll figure it out when he gets home.
Working on cars in the winter is no fun.

Re: AoT's White Wonder
agree with GR. But you can use the shade tree mechanic approach if the tools are not available.
1 - disconnect one side of the battery. with the car 'off' Tap the connector on the terminal. Spark? You have an issue.
2 - remove all but one fuse. Do step one for each fuse. That circuit is the issue. It maybe more than one circuit.
3 - once you find the circuit, start looking at each output/ load. ( aka light or whatever is drawing the juice)

Re: AoT's White Wonder
silly question Aot. Are you sure it was a dead battery. I recall that car had a loose fitting starter motor wire.

Sounds like a wiring issue.

Have to pick up the amp gauge this weekend and charge the battery to do this performance test you've outlined for me. If you see a glow in the western sky don't just assume it's Santa, it might be me hitting a short somewhere!!AoT wrote: No clicking, no lights, no chugging, nuttin honey!!
