Last night i finished painting the diaphragms and put everythaing back together and it looked sweet.



BUT IT Did NOT WORK WTF!!!!!!

More research is needed! Does anyone know how these are supposed to work?

The driver door outside hande was sticking and the window did not roll up well. Last night I removed the door handle, door lock mechanism, window regulator and window. The door handle seemed ok but the lock mechanism was a little stiff. I sprayed it with brake cleaner and gave it a shot with WD 40 and it is working smoother.







The window regulator works but will get a good cleaning, The track the window channel rides in was binding so I cleaned all the old grease from the old track and now it rides smooth. I will apply a light coat of lithium grease when I put it back together.

The biggest two issues are, the window channel which is bolted to the bottom of the window, is half rusted away, so it should be replaced. Next the window scraper on the outside is completely shot and the door sheet metal where it snaps into is in bad shape! I'm not too worried about any of that at this point though, just want the door to pen and the window to go up and down.

Beep Beep! The sweet sound of working horns! Just needed a little adjustment on the screw! One of the easiest fixes for all you naysayers, Tom and Mike!

It was very simple!! Anytime i can keep a VW part working i love it!

Friday night I Por15 the rusted part of the driver side window regulator and the window channel to slow down the rust?

Yesterday I lightly greased up the track, reinstalled everything and it works like a champ!

Today's rain put a damper on today's tasks!

I saw the "crush" in the flesh... more rust than solid metal.

Ken, you have your work cut out for you.

The good news is every time I work on it or move it there is less and less rust.....it keeps falling off!

This would have been more work then your SB. The follows and heater channels are shot. I'm pop riveted them together using metal from a microwave oven I found in the garbage. It's a green car, recycled metal!

Its a shame Jim and his wife let this car rot.

Unfortunately a lot of cars were left to rot away! I hope to get this tightened up enough to drive. The brakes are solid, the engine runs well and the tranny seems to shift nicely!

its been a while since I posted although there has been a lot of work done. Notice I didn't say progress!! The plan for this POS was to get it insured and run it. The engine ran, brakes worked and auto stick shifted but with all the rust spots the insurance company did not want to touch it. So I did some rudimentary body work and painted what needed to be painted with Benjamin Moore version of rustolium. It was orange but not the same orange we I have a two tone car. Here's a couple of pics of the "painted" car.

The muffler was shot but I had a couple of spares in the garage so all I needed to do was remove the old one and install the replacement, simple right?

Here's some shots of the old muffle and multiple problems.

It was easier to cut the old muffler out to be able to get at the rusted nuts and then use some heat to get them off. No heat and the studs break off, heat and sitting pretty!

Next problem was the heater box was a little rusted and had a small hole!



Small patch made and welded in place!





New muffler bolted in place.

very nice Ken. Good use of heat right there. I have two mapp gas tanks, one for household plumbing... the other in the garage for VW use.

i always thought it was one of those things that they say to do, but it would not work, but it is amazing!!

Here's some shots of the floor on the passenger side.

Basically the entire floor is rotted out all around with the exception of the side on the tunnel. There was a small section of the floor remaining between the chair rail and the heater channel the was holding the seat from falling through to the street. I added the patch first to hold that up.
