i got the passenger floor pan spot welded in today then ran out of mig welder gas. i think i need a bigger tank. so i finished making the steel brake lines for the rear brakes anyone have a used welding cylinder for sale?
i got the drivers side floor welded in today looking to flip it up on its side tomorrow and get some welds on the bottom. got one of the 2 broken rear body mount bolts out im off next week so im looking to make some mad progress
got the master cylinder and pedal assembly installed today made the rest of the steel brake lines i will have to pull the pedals tomorrow because the clutch cable fell off had to do the front to rear line in 2 pieces just to many bends to get done in 1 piece i think im ready to attack the body
i got my pedals figured out turns out there needs to be a pedal stop bolted in. on my old floor someone welded one in is there a spec for the pedals to be at?
after the pedals i hit the rear torsion bar bushings and covers they were shot i couldnt get the torsion arms off because the rear arm was a bit to large so i grond off just enough to clear the arm then cleaned all the gack out and painted and replaced bushings and covers so i think im done with the chassis time to hit the body
cleaned the garage today it was getting bad first i find this then got my new argon tank so i can get some work done then bolted up the heater channels, there hitting the seat frame on the passenger side and the nuts in the drivers are not centered with the channel and will need some love tomorrow
so i went to bolt theheater channels in today i notched the passenger side to clear the seat track found that the foward nut/bar thing on both sides are not tapped correctly and the bottom nuts are off center and cant get the bolts to thread in so i ground away some metal so the bolts will start but will have to wait till monday to bring a tap home from work
Interesting, I don't think I ever saw someone bolt the heater channels to the pan before they were welded to the body. Are you going to remove the old channels from the body and lower it onto the pan and then weld ?
the old channels removed themselves/rusted away so i have to bolt the new ones to the pans and line things up like to the front fire wall and rear body to pan panels then graft them into the existing body
Gene, where did u pick up your heater channels from? Just curious to see if im in for the same when i ever get back on it. Love the progress on this too.
yes Tom im gonna bolt the channels to the pan set the body down onto the 2 mounts under the gas tank and the 2 in each rear fender area Square things up and and cut away any rust on the body.i bought new lower front door hingeposts and rear Quarters to weld in so im not gonna weld the old crap to the new channels just float the body on those 4 spots and and cut in and weld the new parts then weld to the channels
so got back on the bug seems they didnt tap the bolt/bars all the way thru so the bottom of the the channel bolt holes were tapered. the guy at cip1 said to tap them from the bottom with a 10x1.5 tap,but you cant run a tap from the tapered end up theres a 359 percent chance of not getting the tap into the thread thats there already and cross threading the bolt bars. so i figured i would cut a hole in the top of the channel and run a tap from the inside out. turns out the bar is enclosed in a box so i had to open the box to acess the the bar then after all this it turns out the bar wasnt tapped to 10x1.5 because the tap nor drill bit that comes with the tap wont go in from the top.
so now i can just drill it out and tap it from the bottom close the box and seal up the hole and got away with drilling and tapping from the bottom on the other channel with out cutting it open. i dont know what size they were tapped to from the begining but it wasnt 8mm or 10mm so im thinking 3/8
