Thanks. I'm trying to up the caliber!!
On the trip back from the Big Duck I sensed a change in the decibel level. When I got it back in the driveway took a peek to find this. I know I have a heavy foot but this was a surprise to see so much gone!!
Mike, maybe it was all that off roading we did!!

Damn.. heater box.
Here's the problem, the head studs are all rusted and i bet they will break. So fixing this might be a real problem.

But that's not heat... it's a broken exhaust pipe.
It's loud and smelly.... just like "_________".

no is not, what broke in your car is the part that muffler in the picture bolts onto.

so I need to get a new heater box. this muffler might be better than the one thats on there. Rust and all!

The problem will be with the exhaust studs. Removing the nuts without snapping the studs will be a project.

The exhaust side is broken not the "fresh air" side.

Last night decided to tackle the heater box issue. Hit the connections to the head with PB Blaster and was able to back them off.
After the 5K run in Sayville that Tom and I ran, got back to work. Got the rest of the connections off and used the angle grinder to give the ragged edge of the heater box receiving end a clean line. Attempted to hammer the heater box repair piece in but it was the exact diameter as the piece still in place so I took the new part and ran it along the bench grinder to shave off a a hair. That worked out good since it heated the metal and when I put it into place to hammer it grabbed the inside and made a snug fit.
Took some time to get the muffler realigned and bolted in place, but worth the effort. Tightened up all the bolts and got the clamps on.
Back on the road....

Very cool. Nice work. They should change the description of that part it states clearly it is for the fresh air side.

Have had an issue with the fuel gauge since its been on the road. The needle moves around like a metronome and never reflects the actual level of gas in the tank.
Took a look last night and traced the wire from the sender to the rear of the speedo. Found that the nut that holds the vibrator to the speedo was loose. so I got the 10mm socket and tighened it up. Took it for a ride and it was steady only with a slight sway on a turn but always goes back to where is started. Not down to reserve like it used to and then shoot back up and down again.
Most of the info I read says that there are two wires. This sender only has one wire to the speedo. It has a connection to the vibrator that sits on the screw.
Is this sender ok or should there be something else that might have been removed? I don't see another place on the top of the sender for another connection. And where is the ground connection?
