Wheels back from powder coating. Was happier with the service at Action, versus the attitude from Renu.
Here's one wheel, they are all round, and all silver. So I don't see purpose in posting 10 pictures of round silvery things. There is a very faint flake in them. I saw another set of wheels in just "wheel silver" and it was just too battleship-grayesque.

Tires will be on by next week, but will be at Islip's parade. Might not have kick panels installed, might be missing the Roo... But otherwise should be together.

Remind me to tell you of my "conversation" the the kid that answers his phone... It'll make your head spin. The dash looks good, but the transaction at Action was much better, they were ready when promised, and they look sweet.

Just go to Action and speak to John. Tell him you're friends with the VW guy.

I also thought it was cute that not ONE of my wheels was even close to the right month/year as my bus.

Well... i'm using TR-413 I needed for the Porsche alloys I have. I also didn't want them too long.

So long as functionality remains the same across the types, for the type of environment my wheels will be in... I'm not too concerned

Don't lose sight of the details now. And will you be filling your new tires with air or nitrogen ?

Air, that way I can fill it up anywhere... I don't want to be bothered having to go to the tire dealer every time it needs to be topped off with nitrogen. The bus is hardly fuel efficient anyways.

Had work today, so I missed you guys at the parade. Hope you all had a good time though.

I've been doing some research to replace my third brake light. I was happy with the one I had from JCW but the adhesive foam seal around where the light sticks to the window was torn while separating it from the window last week. It still works, but I wanted it to look as clean as the rest of the rear of the bus. If anyone wants it, it's yours...
Image

I had ordered this nice Hella listed on http://www.danielsternlighting.com/ but it says that it's "For backglass angles of 57° to 80° — Most vans & wagons, some sedans" obviously we know that the back window on a bus is nearly 90°. Daniel reassured me that many bus owners buy this light.

GoWesty recently started carrying This light

Which in concept, I actually like much better, even though it appears to be a "cheaper quality" light. It has really good reviews too.
Unlike the Hella, which has a fixed angle, the LED light array on this light is adjustable. Which means I can position the light at the top of the window (where my old light was) and angle the light array inside the housing for optimal effectiveness and view ability for cars behind and lower than me.

I had about $40.00 GoBucks saved up on GoWesty's site from when I bought my Fiamma Awning back when I dirst bought Peabody. So, I cashed in on those and ordered the GoWesty light also. I'll decide which is a better "fit" when they arrive, and return, sell, or trade the other one off.

In these old cars, with relatively low, and low power tail lights I think it's one of the best lighting upgrades I think a bus can get.

Tonight, I worked on buttoning up the dash. Got the stereo hooked back up too. It took a while to find a suitable "ignition on" source seeing as I removed the hack supply line that I used (it had existed since I bought the bus)
I heat shrinked any connections that I made, as well as a couple that looked like they needed new connectors.
I traced down a missing/loose illumination light for the speedo and replaced the little red "brake" warning light.
Then, I reinstalled my kick panels and the rubber mat.
Replacing the retaining clips on the back of the gauge pod was easier said than done too!
Then, I went on to paint the heat/vent control levers. I had seen someone post on TS that Krylon Fusion had a good color match and it held well.
Tomorrow, the new tires and wheels go on.
I'll finish up (at least for now) with the new tire cover, my new (OG) glove box and a good cleaning inside.

I like this paint block setup. Clever.

Looking to forward to seeing Peabody strutting the new goods this weekend.

I was trying to figure a way to hang them from a wire. But that wasn't working out.
New tires are on the rims... I'll be mounting them on the car tonight and putting it back on the ground,
also will install my new glovebox tonight.
Had to put the tach back in the dash, just because I didnt want to see the hole in the dash. Someone had to trim the opening to make room for the back of the tach, so I'll have to buy a new cluster now.
It is what it is...
New 5 new rated Hankooks, mounted and balanced: $600 at All Weather Tire.
The Fusion also needed rear tires, so I wheeled and dealed a bit, and got those for $211.00

Wrapping up my "small projects"

New glove box arrived today, here's the part before it made it into the dash
Image
And after...

I had bought a plastic glove box, but wasnt thrilled with the quality nor the fit and finish. Also, judging by the material I anticipate it would've been VERY noisy if I threw a set of keys or change in there.

So did the new brake light, it's a very nice quality piece. I'm not thrilled with the "film" that says Hella on it. Not so much because it says Hella, but more because its a really thin, flimsy vinyl that was a PITFA to adhere. And it has a bubble that bothers me. I'm hoping the bubble dissipates as the sun hits it and warms up the vinyl, it's tiny but you know my OCD.

And after...

This light's shape lends it more to being mounted at the bottom of the window, where the last one was at the top. Where there was exposed wiring like out of the housing before it tucked under the seal, I slipped on some black heat shrink which cleaned up the look ALOT. Then I tucked the wire under the rubber window seal and ran it out the stock position at the top drivers side of the window.

The Roo bar went off to MasterWeld to get a set of shackle mounted welded on.
These two brackets are now welded to the uprights with a set of D ring shackles on them.
Each shackle is rated for 1800lbs mounted on 3/8" steel. But I really wanted them more just for tie downs than anything else.

Brought my tire cover to Tom at Tijuana today. He altered it so it fit the tire, correctly.
I'm very happy with how it came out, and he did a much nicer job at the hem and installed an elastic shock cord on the backside to keep it tight.
I'm a bit nervous that the logo is too large... On the fence. But for now, it's good.

Logo looks a bit large now but once you put the Roo bar back on it should look fine.
