AoT Im free Fri afternoon/night I think if you wanna tinker on it. I got school tomorrow afternoon/night, and wed morning as well, then the funeral home wed night, and class thurs afternoon/evening. Although I might be missing my thurs evening class. I could take a peek with you when your free. Stereos are easy...

thanks Bill. this is what I needed to know. I did notice that every time I turned the key the demo scroll was restarting, so its has no memory. As soon as I get the front compartment open I will reseat them. I did disconnect the battery to avoid any power drain while i get the hood unlocked.

Yes the spare is in the front apron. There is a hole in the glove box that I will make bigger to see if I can grab the cable.

Spent Sunday working on the front hood latch.
Made the cuts on the handle as the Bentley book recommended.
But as the crow flies, it took more than the 3 cuts to get it off.
The bolts just spun on the the outside metal so had to attack it with the angle cutter.
By the time I was done it took its toll on the front hood. The rubber seals melted and the hood has some war wounds.
But at least it got the hood open.
the cable was intact and the lock was working. The problem was that the riveted connection to the glove box has come off.
The masonite was literally pulverized, so the cable and sleeve had no resistance.

I'll give my left over Halloween candy to the best idea to fix this!!
After this adventure and getting the garden winterized, kicked it back in the yard to enjoy the view.
Quite a treat!

Replace the glove box with either a good used one or a new ABS plastic one.

I have a plastic one you can have. Just don't cut that cable or white tube on yours because you may need to re-use it.

You shouldn't have to order any new clips unless you break some taking the old one out. Be very careful removing the clips and trim ring that goes around the opening and the glove box door closes on.

I still have the cardboard box & cable from my '70 donor, I may be up that way next week. Let me know if you still need one, I'll pull it out of the shed, make sure it's in 1 piece & bring it up.

Now that I got the front hood open I needed to repair the latch opening on the glove box. Got a donated one (thank you very much, Jim!) The old one fell off as soon as I unscrewed the retaining screw and removed the strap. No clips or front panel to take off.
the only problem was on reconnecting the cable, its like trying to wrestle an alligator. There is a pin that holds it to the exterior side of the latch and when I went to reconnect it snapped off. (Need to lay off lifting weights!)
So had to go to plan B as usual. Opted to go with a cotter pin to allow the cable to rotate on the latch.
Checked to see that the cable is moving under the lock but not sure how much the lock should open so I'll see if anuyone had a bug at the next meeting. Ordered the seals for under the handle that I hope to replace this weekend.

After seeing some leakage from the front end I checked to realize that the steering damper was shot. There was very little resistance when pushing in the damper on the old one and prob most of the fluid was gone.
Took the DS wheel off and was able to get it disconnected from the tie rod. When replacing, put the damper connection on first so that you can align the angle to get the threaded end thru the tie rod.
PS was easy access to get the bolt off. Once the damper side was on it was simple bolt on to tighten.
The one I took off was not the original and the replacement is the same manufacturer and made in Brazil.

It's hard to tell where the wonder's shimmies end and my shimmies start!!
I notice there is not as much play in the steering wheel but the damper was going before Etown and it wasn't a bad ride on the parkway. Haven't had this out on the open road yet with the new damper so I'll be curious.

Got the seals to put the front hood lock on but decided to clean up the front hood and apron. Finished sanding the apron and got it primed, sanded and painted, The front hood was bondo-ed to close up some of the cuts from cutting off the handle. Hope we get another few days of this weather to get it finished.
See a little blue coming thru thru layers of paint, so guess its not the original lid.
Cleaned up now just to put the lock back on and the hood seal.
Next up the fenders!

Just getting better with age... the wonder, not me!!
Well today makes the offical day that the "wonder" has been on the road for a year. Got the insurance renewed, re-registered and even got it inspected. What a difference a year makes and what a year it has been. Wheeeee.....
With some of the issues I've had with the tires on the rims I got (plugs and flats) I took it to my service garage and had them put tires that were on crappy rims on the spoked rims. These have good rubber and no dry rot. Need to take it out for a good run to see how it rolls. Got a little clearance on the front. Save my pennies and get something new down the road.
