I decided to put the "fresh" chicken out of it's misery and redid, applied and finished the logos.



I like the new chicken much better.

Haven't posted in a while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been working on the bus. Just minor stuff like sanding, primer, etc. Not really worth posting.... So I might as well brighten your day right?

Haven't posted any progress in a while. Haven't been doing any work either, what a coincidence!

I did, however, got to thinking about the holes in the side of the bus and decided to get working on patching them up.

Just getting the metal was a journey within itself. I live 45 minutes away from any major metal store, and in Binghamton, New York, the number of steel suppliers that have flat sheet metal is surprisingly few. So I gave in and ordered some online through thesamba, funny how you can get just about anything online!

I still have to grind the pieces to get a perfect fit, order more of those fancy magnets (The local auto parts store only had two and wasn't planning on getting more), clean the nasty old caulking from edges of the holes and find a gas welder to use. All my friendly neighbors have flux, and the inexperienced-with-welding person that I am wants gas, to make it easier on myself.

The progress isn't much, but my schedule is limited, so every little thing counts.

Looks kinda toasty in the belly of the barn.

Also put in the wooden door panels that the PO made. Tight fit, but the old door panel was really warped.

tru dat. Just pick away at it .Check out this style clamp. They are a little costly through this supplier but maybe you could find them cheaper. Harbor freight used to sell them i'm not sure if they still do.

Be carefull grinding the welds when You are done. Grinding can get the metal hot and warp it just as bad as welding can. I keep a damp rag around grind some and cool some.

I love Saturdays! Had a nice time with the Bus today.

I finished stripping the paint and rust away from the outside windows sills.

And, after going inside and warming up, went back out to the barn and stripped the filler off the left rear corner.

I knew there was filler on it, but I thought it was only a thin skim coat.

Guess what? I found a group of nasty dents and possibly the best Turkis paint blending/repair job ever!

The dents were hiding underneath what I thought was OG paint.

I threw some rattle can primer on it until the weather is warm enough to do the body work, which will probably end up being in 2010, unless we have another Indian Summer.

I've been having some trouble with the tail lights recently, and not wanting to be pulled over at night is at the top of my mind!
The situations funny. When I press the brake pedal both lights glow nice and bright, but the moment I let got the left drivers side tail light stops working.
I don't know much about wiring and the bus has stumped me.
That's why I came here, to ask for some advice.

Brake lights on.


Brakes off. No left side light.


Here's the "bad" light. It's older and more worn than the right side and the "box" where the wires connect is not original. Where the light bulb plugs in is also different from the bad assembly. It has much deeper/longer prongs that touch the light. Both light bulbs work in each one.


Here's the good light. As you can see, the entire assembly has been replaced.


I have my Idiot's manual at hand and a 1963 Type II diagram ready but I'm not sure what to look for.
Has anybody experienced something similar?
This is the first time I've dealt with anything electrical, but I have all the time and patience in the world.
I'm sending out an S.O.S!

I checked all the fuses and they are fine. The bus is also running on a 12 volt system.
