Adjusted the clutch out a bit looser to give it more bite. Im still able to shift fine so I may have found the sweet spot. That said, drove the old girl around this weekend with no issues.

My wife hates this plant in my house.... she finally convinced I give it up, so Liam and I dropped it off at my moms ( the plant whisperer) One of the stems cracked in half, but the wife is happy its gone.

With the brief pause in rain, I wanted to take the old girl to work today.... As I hopped on the 135, She sounds a bit 'missing' and had lack of power. Ran back home and ditched her as I have a few errands to run today on lunch. The feeling I got was Almost like the advance on the dizzy didnt want to advance. I think its has a 009 in it, ( not by choice) and Im fresh outta 019's. I have heard that SVDA'a are real nice with the 34 pic on 1600dp. Anyone on here run one? Any preferred brand, maker etc ( if there is more then one).

If you have a 34PICT-3 then you want a vacuum/mechanical. You want a real Bosch GERMAN unit. The Chinese ones are crap.

When I switched from mechanical to vacuum on the beetle the engine ran so much smoother, it was night and day. I think I bought mine from aircoooled.net

Aircooled used to sell the Bosch Mexican 205zb, but they were discontinued years ago. The best they have now is the Pertronix and it's crap.

Drive out to Riverhead was very pleasant with no surprises. I have a few side jobs I need to get out of the garage but first up after them is the bus; flywheel/ pressure plate and full brake job.












Looking fwd to spending some quality time with the family in the bus, this summer. The boys, of course, love it the most.....

Paused from other pressing matters and house work to get the bus shifting issue sorted for the upcoming weeks that I want to get the bus to.

If you recall, gear selection was very hard while the engine running, but like butter with the engine off. Clutch adjustment was limited as too tight, no gear selection, and backed off, it would slip. I replaced the disk last time motor was out. People suggested it was the linkage, but I think it was a worn, flywheel.

Pulled the engine and flywheel Wed night. Discoloration and shinieness tell a bad story. Its also interesting that the disk seems to be only grabbing part of the flywheel.














Took it for a test drive around the block, seems 100% better. Let me button it all up and get some miles on this this weekend.

Dished flywheel? What else could possibly cause that?

Im not sure.... I think it was cut too deeply at one time or another. Maybe a bad cut..... or just simply worn. Whatever it is that flywheel is now in route to becoming a kia.

Hmmmm....I ran into the same lady last year at Gregg Allman's festival.......she some sort of groupie?

Brakes have been a bit subpar as of late so I wanted to do an overhaul; focusing on the front for now. Both hard lines were super weak so Im glad I checked it out. Pads were ok, but less than 1/2. I'll have the rotors cut and clean up the calipers.

Havent done $hit to the bus all winter, just driving it when not freezing out.

Dumped the oil in prep for spring and replaced the fuel filter earlier in the week. Next up was to address the brakes. When I did the front brakes, I left the back, as is, knowing I had some issues to address and needed some parts. Santa got me all the parts and they have been waiting install. Pass side was bone dry at the cyl and no matter how much I bled, was getting poor flow. Also the drum wold hang up, squeaking and get hot after a cruise. ( tell tale signs of bad rubber hose). Driver side was working but was wet and dripping fluid. ( bad cyl). So up the air it went and off came the parts. Got stuck due to the larger 46mm drum nuts, but amazon prime to the rescue. Drums are getting cut now, so hoping to have it buttoned tonite.

I love the lift, how stable is that ? Do you use jackstands with it to be extra safe ?

Local guy ( new to me) did a nice job on my OG drums. Sadly, this is prob there last time to turned, as they are looking a tad thin...... Anywho, slapped them on last night and bled the brakes. Tonite I'll adjust the stars and get her back on all fours.

Took it for a test drive last night. Amazing that this thing stops like it does, given it size. Power disk brakes are beautiful thing!
Need to adjust the stars a bit more, and want to re-bleed the system to make sure all the air is out.


Next up on the list was to address the heat issue. Before winter and wanted to hook up the heat and noticed that tube that runs front to rear was very swiss cheese like. I rigged it for the Christmas parade, and did some research. Turns out after doing some research, it was suggested using a 2.5 inch muffler pipe will work good. Tom, i think you said some chimney pipe from HD, but this fits real good. The 2.5 pipe slides right into the old location and welds up nice and solid.

I was to get something to fill in the little holes were I blew through on the welds, and will prob wrap the whole thing in muffler heat wrap. But for this weekend... hoping we are a bit toastier for the parade.

That looks like a nice fit and fix.
I have to figure out the wiring of the small assisting blower motor for the heat,
and I'm not very good at reading electric diagrams.
Perhaps at the parade we all can look at it, and I can get whatever little heat moving a little.
( something is better than nothing)

Dave, that blower unit really is for when you are idling , it doesn't do a hell of a lot.

Yeah I know, but I think I have all the parts, want to hook it up for whatever it's worth.
It's just hooking up a couple of wires....

Don't worry, I'm, not going to ask to borrow tool or anything crazy like that.

Tom, it actually aluminium ( or some coating) over the metal and super heavy. I think it it will outlast the bus. I'll prob paint too for some added protection before I wrap it, since I grinded the ends in an effort to weld better.
