Your problems are way bigger than the VW engine. Take care of business at home and the bug will be there when you're done. Good luck!!

I didn't get the scoop on where we're at with this other than the compression issue. Anything I can do at this point?

It is a busy month ahead so give it a rest and take care of yourself, that's the only thing that matters. Hope things are okay!

Well it was exactly 6 months ago to the day that I brought this bug home and rolled it onto my driveway. After being inspired from the 5K run and having gotten the lugs off I jacked up the car to put on the other tires. Took some pictures of the brakes to show what we've got to work with.

Use the old leverage technique to get the rims and lugs aligned

Now that the VW has 4 inflated tires it rolls, so I took it for a "run" down the driveway

Two success stories today! 3.1 miles and 6 months under my belt!! :P

OK... we have an engine. We looked at one that's from a 72. It runs nice, the exhaust is quiet and the engine is dry. The only problem is there's a good amount of surface rust on the sheetmetal and a few pieces have to be replaced.

The engine has a generator so it has to be swapped to an alternator. We already have the alternator, stand and sheetmetal. The fuel pump also needs to be replaced.

Audry will need some help getting the engine over to her house. I figure a afternoon to take the fan shroud and sheetmetal off so she can clean it up and paint it. Then another afternoon to put it all back together, do a valve adjustment and full tuneup. Then either put it in or plan another afternoon to install it.

Stay tuned for dates when this will start happening and all are welcome to help or just drink beer.

Thanks forthe help Glenn. Engine sounds good, but not so pretty (yet)!

I told the seller that I would be back sometime next to bring it home, so I'll pick a day (anyone want to play hookey from work?) to see who might lend a hand!

Manny, I can't lift the engine, so we need two guys to go to West Babylon and put the engine in AoT's SUV and then go to Baldwin and take it out.

Then we'll set a date to take it apart and another to put it back together.

what day? if it's in the evening I dont have a problem, I can go there with my son and no one else has to be bothered. Audrey lives about 7 minutes from me. if it's during the day I can only do it on Wednesday and we will have to talk and see if i'm not jammed up with work that day.

Actually, the guys at the shop in Babylon said they could get it in the truck, so if I go out and get it on Tuesday night then on Wednesday I could meet "Da Fada and da Son" and have them drop it on the dollie. I work 2 minutes from home so whatever time works on Wednesday would be great! Sound like a plan? It's your call Manny.
