Thanks....As they say, "I've come along way, baby!!

I very much appreciate everyone's support and encouragement. It keeps me going when I want to bang my head with a hammer!
(the endless times I bang my head on the front and rear lids doesn;t count!)

Well, it's back!! Got the engine back in the wonder. With lots of manuvering and ingenuity got it installed.

Had a few clitches but it made interesting!! Thanks to BusBBQBill and GA for their manpower!


Once we got the engine on the studs the boys kicked it back and let me take it from there (might explain things when it craps out!!) Got the connections tight and wires connected. All that is left is to get a metal fuel filter and clean up the oil cooler. The clutch has some play so prob will have to shorten it up again since it bottomed out on the threads,

This is what has kept me very busy the past two weeks.

Thanks, it doesn't matter how far you've gone, what matters is the direction you're going in. Progress slow or fast is still progress.

With the winter willies getting here fast I didn't want to put it off for too long, Now I've some some "interior" projects to work on!!

Trying to get the final touches done.

Picked up a metal fuel filter and got it connected last night. Not a drop of gas was tasted!



Gave the new accelerator pedal and accelerator cable a few pushes to get the fuel up to the carb. The car is still jacked up pretty good. Went back and connected the battery and with a few more twiddles, I cranked the key and guess what.......



It started up on the first try!! YEAH!! Let it run for a few minutes and it sounded real good.

Will be cleaning up the oil bath and giving that a fresh coat of paint. the only issue left is the clutch cable. The old one needed spacers because it bottomed out on the threads. The new one does the same thing and there is still lots of play in the pedal. Realized that the new tranny that was put in March was most likely from a '71 because up to that year the cable was about an inch shorter. '72 and later were longer. I am going to order a new one and do it right (Just like Mike Holmes tells you!) and not fiddle with spacers. Need to reconnect the cables to the heater boxes and enjoy some heat.

Got the correct clutch cable delivered yesterday and so last night I hunkered down and got the pedal cluster out and installed the correct cable. Right away I could tell it was going to be a better fit. Once the cluster was back on and bolted, gave a few pumps on the pedal and the clutch is firm, not the play and low spot I had before. Now just have to connect the heater boxes and hoses and the wonder should be able to touch down again.

Wanted to get this done before the weekend so I can take it for a good run to see how it handles with all the new parts and changes. Ny fav ride is along Ocean Pkwy and don't want to get stuck down there after dark these days!! Don't want to be MIA.

Took the afternoon to get back to the wonder. Its a new year approaching and want it to look its best!

The heater boxes needed to get reconnected but the DS metal tab is gone. Picked up a cotter pin to close the gap and locked it in place. Not sure if it might need to get shortened a bit. See how the bug heats up in this cold weather!






Wired brushed the oil filter and gave it a few coats of paint to clean it up for a finished look. Want to repaint the coil too since its faded as well.





Decided to take a few extra days to finish the rear end body work and not have to retape it over again. Put a few coats of primer on and will give it a few coats of paint to finish the job. The reveal should be interesting!!

Be carefull painting around that heater. First Kerosene residue can land on the preped surface causing fish eyes. You should clean the preped surface just before material is applied. Second it is a good idea to turn the heater off while paint fumes are in the air. Turn it back on after the fumes air out a little.
