Looking good ken. I'm like you and my vw progress is slow due to home renovations. I like the precautionary move by having the extinguisher ready just in case.
Your houses po might be related to mine.... And preferred to have a non gfi outlet next to the sink! No worries, mine is still there too

Actually that outlet is tied into another GFI on the counter so i should be good to go!

Also the Fire Extinguisher was just stored under the sink. Fortuatnly i didn't need to do any pipe sweating just the PVC connection.

Made a little progress this weekend. I finished cutting the rest of the old heater channel out. The back of it broke off. I had to cut a few welds and chiseled a couple of spot welds i could not get at to drill out. Then today after spending all day over-seeding the lawn I cut out some of the rusted metal in the front right next to the master cylinder and cut a patch before heading in for dinner.

the past two weekends i have been spending some time on the 68. Cutting out rusted fender nuts welding in new metal and prepping the areas for the new heater channel installation. THis past weekend i treated some the places i won't be able to get tow with POR 15 so i hope to begin welding the driver side heater channel in. I aslo did some work ont he spare tire compartment which was pretty severly rusted..

Been working on the driver side heater channel. Finally finished installing it last weekend and started to remove the passenger side. That side is not as bad and should take a lot less time due to the learning curve.

Got out to the garage last night finished removing the passenger side Heater channel. I actually set the back apron on my workmate and use a come-a-long to lift the front of the car off the chassis so that i can roll the chassis out from under the car to get good access.

I have a little more clean up to do but this side is in much better condition then the driver side. While i have access i will be cutting out the rust and then coat the inside areas with POR 15 before welding the new one in. Hopefully this will be a lot quicker then the otherside.

Got out on saturday and sunday, between yard work and capping some aluminun i was alble to make some good progress cleaing up the body in preperation for the passenger side heater channell. THe fit on this side is much better as there is not as much rot. I had to make a couple of patches which are done. need to be ground down but that is nothing then i am going to prep and POR 15 everything i can get to before th wleding the new heater channel in, hopefull this weekend.

here are some pics of the progress.

This is my work set up. Hardest part is crawling under to get access to the rust. Old bones don't like getting up and down like thye used to.
