Camper Table Q

Does anyone drive their Westy around with the rear table set up? I have been doing that and the vibrations are ripping the screws out of the table. I have tried rotating the bracket so the screws get into fresh wood. Same thing happened. Am I just not supposed to drive with the table set up on its stand or is there a trick without modifying through bolts through the table top and bracket?

Markus, the table is intended to be stored on the rear bed when the bus is moving. There is probably (or was definitely at one point) a PVC strap with a snap to keep it from sliding around.
I had driven with mine in place for a while, the biggest issue I found was that when turning right the table would swing away from the wall, when turning left it would swing into the wall. It wasn't until later when VW built the Vanagon that the table leg got a clamp versus our screw/knob setups.
To keep my table from swinging around, I had put a safety strap in place. I bought it at Home Depot for $3 it's intended to keep the door closed on a refrigerator. I'll post a pic a little later. I just got home from work.

yes i saw that strap and button, i still have it. I just like the look of having the table set up all the time, nice and tidy. i will stow it.

btw my screw clamp keeps the L stand and table top from swinging around in all turns. maybe a mod would be to drill a hole in the L stand in the exact spot the screw clamp would go in to keep from rotating.

Drilling a small hole would probably work.
Something I have noticed after years of driving around with the table in place however is that the support arm that is bolted through the cabinet is not intended to bear the weight of the table through movement. Over time the bolts start to pull through the laminated wood and over time I suspect would entirely rip off of the cabinet. Noticing that the bracket kept coming loose I had at once tried tightening the bolts holding it in place. But As it became a semi-yearly adjustment I came to see that I was essentially making it tighter and tighter which meant the wood was being made thinner and thinner.

I like the look too, but I like my bus being nice and unbroken better!

I store my table on the bed in the back of the Westy top. When I pop the top when camping I bring it down, I mostly use it on the outside of the bus . ( I have the bracket that goes into the jack point )

I LOVE that bracket. I'm happy I got mine.
I like the idea of keeping it in the roof. But, I keep my bedding up there so there's not much room left! LOL
