Re: CARNAGE THREAD
This is the aftermath of a cutoff wheel exploding..... 12 stitches and blood everywhere.

Re: CARNAGE THREAD
He is really lucky. A few inches more and it could have been lights out. Glad he's okay.

Keep working at it and it gets done!!
Re: CARNAGE THREAD
Glad he's ok. Was there a shield on the wheel? I've had Dremel wheels break, but they don't have enough mass to go far/do much damage. I've never seen a 3.5 or 4" wheel grenade before.

Re: CARNAGE THREAD
I've seen some carnage from unshielded wheels, twice I drove a buddy up for stitches because he insisted on continuing to use it. The second time the ER wait time was too long, so we went to the drug store for some butterfly closures and a splint. They were out of splints, so we each ate a popsicle and used the sticks. The wheel had cauterized the cut anyway.
Nah, we ain't redneck.
I do have an unshielded wire wheel that is capable of holding a cutoff wheel. I think I've done it once, I forget why. I recommend ALWAYS wearing protection though. I once took off my goggles after using the wheel and had a stabbing pain in my nose, right between the eyes. I had a stray wire embedded and my goggles hit it while coming off.

Re: CARNAGE THREAD
About 10 years ago I finally bought a full face shield due to the wire wheel scratching my glasses. About a week later the object I was holding got loose and flew into my face bouncing off the shield. It would of left a nice mark if I didn't have the shield on.
Remember... wear protection.

Didnt The split bus guy that moved to Rochester ( his name escapes me at the moment) get a strand of the wire wheel into the eye ball? That... was a one ugly picture!
