does the 68 have the front glass you need?
front disks... who on here needed that set up?

Unfortunately the 68 glass does not fit the 71 Ghia, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. One of them has to go that is for sure, my driveway looks like a used car lot.

Your single, widowed, or your wife is legitimately blind, I'd take either of the three..haha. I'd be interested in the front discs, keep me in mind once you figure out what your doing. Looks like fun

I'll take some more pictures tonight but the floor boards don't have any holes in them, the fenders and front truck in in better condition then the orange one. The engine hatch is in bad condition, but basically the body is in nicer shape then the orange car. Mechanically though i don't thin kt he front brakes are working but the rear brakes are, the engine spins but not very well. I filled each cylinder with PB blaster and will let is soak for a while. It s a standard so that is better and i think it has a gas heater under the passenger side front fender. There are no keys though!

Worked on the Ghia engine over the weekend to see if i could get it to start. The engine (1600 dual port) could be turned by hand but it had a few rough spots so i filled each cylinder the weekend before with PB Blaster and let it sit until Saturday. Saturday with a wrench and the plugs out i could turn it a lot better, so i connected a battery changed the oil and let it spin. It spun OK, a little slow but i chalk that up to bad battery and weak starter.
I then installed the plugs connected a12 volts to the coil and gave it a whirl. Nothing , so i checked and there was no spark from the coil. Took the dist cap off and filed down the cruddy points , tested again and spark. Connected the coil wire to the dist and poured some gas down the carb and it backfired weakly and smoke came out of the exhaust pipe. Static timed the dist but no change.
Conducted a compression test of each cylinder and they were a perfect 0 across the board. :o
Pooped the valve covers off and 1 valve in each cylinder was struck open. I shot some PB blaster down each of the stuck valve push rod tubes and after letting it sit a bit was able to free the stuck lifters with a little tap from a rubber mallet. now all the valves open and close. Now the starter is struggled to get more then a revolution or two when i try to start it. Could be bad starter and or battery, but i jumped it from my truck and still not turning over much.

i have a couple of old starter in the garage so i'll swap that out and see if that is the problem.

I plan on getting back to the engine in the Ghia tonight so I'm checking for thoughts on possible causes of the engine turning over slowly.

So far I replaced the positive battery cable, the old one had numerous cuts in the insulation so i replaced it and cleaned up the connection at the starter motor and the battery.
The Ground cable has a lot of cuts in it as well, which really shouldn't matter, but i want to clean the connection to the engine.
I'm also planning on taking the starter motor apart and cleaning everything up, checking the brushes and cleaning the commutator to make sure I'm getting good contact.

it's been almost 2 months since i looked at the 68 Ghia but I found some time on Saturday and Sunday so here is the update, Saturday i removed the two aftermarket seats that had been mounted using some 1/4 inch bots and Copper fittings for spacers. Those holes have to be repaired but otherwise the passenger site floor is in great shape. The driver side floor from the seat back is not good but nowhere near as bad as the orange car. Sunday i got back tot he engine. Took the battery and ground cable from the orange Ghia and installed in the 68 Blue. It turned over but saw still felt like it was fighting itself. I had a good spark but when i poured gas in carb it turned over worse. I figured the timing was way off so i started to play with the distributor. after turning it about 1/4 of an inch the engine kicked over and ran for 2 seconds. BINGO.

Got a gas can and ran a supply line to the fuel pump into it but it wasn't pumping an gas. pulled the top of the carb to see if the float was stuck but it wasn't. filled the carb bowl with gas and it started and ran ok, but still did not draw up an gas. Tried a second fuel pump i had laying around. Still nothing. Took the fuel pump out of the orage and bang it started up and ran ok.

I made a little video which i will down load when a get a chance.

Pulled the gas tank and it sounds like it's full of sand, not good. i'm missing the key so I pulled the door handle so I'll try ordering a set of keys. I loosened up the brake lines in preparation of swapping the front beam!

Started stripping the paint on the Fuchs rims but it's pretty stubborn.

Making progress though!

Got some time over the weekend to devote to the Ghia between coats of paint in the bathroom .
Pulled the pedal cluster to clean it up and install new accelerator and clutch cables.
pulled the very rusted master cylinder and will swap in the one from the orange ghia.
Dropped the beam and will replace with the beam from the orange Ghia.
Plan to degrease and then Por 15 the top of the frame head from the fire wall forward while everything is out.
I'm going to pull the steering column and see if i can get the ignition lock cylinder out. I purchased two new keys last week and they work the doors but not the ignition switch.

I'm hoping to get some real time over the thanksgiving holiday to get everything done and get this roadworthy.

Last week I got to spend some real time working on the 68 Ghia. The plan was to swap brakes, fuel tank, and steering wheel from the 71 Ghia to the 68 and go over the car’s engine and wiring.

After pulling the old gas tank, master cylinder and beam I painted the top of the frame head Por 15. It had surface rust but otherwise was solid. Hope this slows down the aging process a little bit. Then swapped the beam with working disc brakes from the 71, swapped rear brake cylinders and brake hardware. Replaced all the rubber brake lines which were bad on the 68 with the lines from the 71. A few of the metal lines broke during the swap but I had some new lines laying around that in bent and installed. Swapped over the MC and replaced all the blue brake fluid hose and filled it with fresh fluid. Didn't get a chance to bleed it yet because I am waiting for new accelerator and clutch cables to come in before I re-installed peddle assembly. Hopefully that stuff arrives before the weekend.

I yanked the engine so I can pull the fan shroud to make sure no creature made homes in there, then will adjust the valves, install new valve cover gaskets, plugs, etc.

The wiring in the engine compartment is bad, connections made by just twisting wires together so I will go through that and clean that all up. It came with a sporty steering wheel with no horn so that came out and I will be replacing with the steering wheel from the 71. While I had the steering wheel off I pull the ignition cylinder which was not working with the new keys I purchased from Clay Smith, however I found out that is has the same key code as the door handles. I eventually was able to get the keys to turn it but it was very hard to do so I reached out to Clay and he is sending me out another set of keys to try. Great service on his part by the way.

When I pulled the turn signal switch to get to the cylinder I found again all the wires had been cut and were just twisted together with a little black tape that was falling apart. I will put connections on there when that is all re-assembled.

If all goes well, I should be ready to take her for a test drive around the block by the end of the weekend!
