AoT's White Wonder

The Engine in picked up upstate for AoT's car was frozen (i thought) so i spayred swome WD-40 into the sylindera dn the dispributer shaft (distributer was not isntalled so shaft was exposed but he engine still would not budge. Lat night on the suggestion of Varnish picked up som PB Blaster and sprayed that in the cylinders and distributer shaft and then just for kicks the tried to turn the engine and low and behold and spun kind of easy. I'm thinking as Glenn R suggested maybe the distributer shaft got jambed and with the engine in the back of my truck it go jostled loose. Anyway no we have two potential engines for her car. The distributer for this engine was also frozen but i sprayed that also and now it spins but not very smoothly.
Both of the engines i have been sitting for a while so what steps should i take befofre trying to fire them up. I have transmiision case i salvaged so i am going to try and start them outside of the car.

You have to free it up first. then do a valve adjustment. I'd spin it with the started and no plugs until you get oil pressure. Then you can try to start it.

Is there anything written on a setup for starting the engine outside of car? How to mount the engine, how to set up the gas lines etc, etc?

Well, obviously don't mount it upside down would be my first suggestion. I have no second suggestion sorry. I ran out of stupid ideas.

Give yourself time. I'm sure you'll come up with a few more... have faith. I do.

all you need is a can of gas, a battery and good hose clamps!

Third time is the charm.
This one is a 71/72 1600DP with a generator. Ken and i spend 15 minutes and almost got it started. The problem is a torn intake book which causes a massive vacuum leak.
Here's the plan:
remove the shroud and generator
have the alternator Ken supplied tested
remove the intake manifold
remove generator stand
remove the tin and have Audrey clean and paint it
do a valve adjustment
check compression
change the oil
remove inspect and clean the pressure plate and flywheel
check endplay
reinstall sheetmetal
reinstall intake
install alternator stand
reinstall alternator and shroud
reinstall intake with new boots
full tuneup
start engine

I might be kind of slow but shouldn't "compression check" and "start it" be before clean and paint it ? Or is that just the list of things to do in no paticular order ?

I can't start it without fixing the the intake manifold boot.
I'll check compression before giving Audrey the tin.

MICE... I hate mice.
The pulley is toast... too rusted to use
Nothing like having a air compressor to clean up between the fins.
The BAD:
The shroud should be replaced. Two of the 4 bolts holding the alternator backing plate were stripped. So it's best to replace it
The pulley is too rusted and needs to be replaced.
The distributor is a OO9 and a vacuum advance would be better
The two upper cylinder tins are a bit flimsy.
The GOOD:
The engine looks to be in good shape. I have to do a compression test and check the flywheel to know for sure
None of the bolts snapped when taking it apart but the two intake manifold studs on the 1/2 bank came out because the nuts were rusted
The exhaust seems complete and the heater boxes work
What we need:
Dog House fan shroud
Both upper cylinder tins (could use the old ones if we have to)
Crank Pulley
Vacuum distributor, could use the OO9 for now
What's next:
Check compression
Check endplay
Do valve adjustment
Change oil
Reassemble
