Just got back from the "Brake Job". The front was in great shape but the rears are rusted to shit.

Glenn... how do these look for $40 shipped?

I ordered the parts, but need to find a source for the wheel bearings and e-brake retainer clips.

I think I have a set in My cache of parts. Let Me see what they look like. Then I will find replacements at Etown for Mine. for less. I'll look today. The clips Your talking about are they the ones that bolt on to the backing plate? I'll look for those too.

Sounds good...

I ordered everything except for the backing plates, e-brake retaining clips and the wheel bearings. I'll talk to Tony and see if he has another source for the wheel bearings.

GA/GR made it looks easy today. The front disc brakes got switched out in a flash and the new pristine ones shine like a northern star!

Image

The rear brakes were not so pretty or easy to unleash! GA has quite a collection of tools to get the job done!

This picture says it all! Time to start from scratch!

GR has gotten to know AoT's workshop very well with all the work he's put into the project!Image

Many thanks to the Glenns! Great teamwork!! :P

I look like a deer in headlights.

Image

I spoke to Tony about the rear wheel bearings and he thinks they should be OK. They may look dry but they are sealed and there should be grease still inside. He thinks we should grease the outside and give them a try. If they do need to be replace then both the inner and outer (4 total) should be done. This requires the axle and stub axles to be removed and the bearings need to be pressed out and pressed in. Not really a driveway job.

What do you think?

You can get the bearings out in the driveway... I just did the rear baja bearings. See my build thread.

I agree with tony.... repack the grease in the bearings and see what happens.

I got the brake lines and seals today. I went ahead and purchased the two backing plates. They're in nice shape and if we find cheaper... i'll keep them. I had to mail order the e-brake retaining clips... dame postage was more than the parts, but what could i do.

The e-brake cables will be at GT on Monday, so we should plan on regrouping toward the end of next week.

The master is at AoTs.

GA wanted to try the old one first. The way the hardlines are they could be a problem.

The lovely assistant.

I guess We could let those bearings fly for now and keep an eye on them. good call on the backing plates the tabs where broken on the ones I had. Let Me know when all the parts are in and painted. Same day next week Might work.

We have the new master on hand just in case the old one craps the bed. But for now We are going to see if We can get a pedal with the old one.
