ATV jack

Post by gary haberman »

After pulling my engine a few times using a hydraulic jack, I read in TheSamba that some advise using an ATV jack instead. I see there are many advantages to using one but which one? All the ones that I looked at on the Amazon site had both positive and negative reviews-while I guess every item has its fans and detractors, I would like some advice from those who actually have used one.

Havent used one or bought one yet... but I agree 100% with you. I have been eyeing them for a while myself. Keep us posted if you decide to try it out.

Most but the one from HF.. it's dirt cheap.

I've been using a floor jack for 45 years.... it works for me.

I have a Craftsman ive been using to lift my motor cycle for about 10 years now with no problems. it worked great doing the vw engine its alot more stabile then a floor jack. i dont think the brand matters much because ill bet there all made by Ali Babba in China anyway. if i remember correctly it was 49.99 on sale

I have one from Pep Boys that I use. Actually bought it for my ATV. Tried it on the VW and works well. But to be fair I've never pulled an engine and not had the car on a lift. So doing it on the floor may be different.

I liked the ATV jack for type 4 engine removal and install. Did not like it for upright engine removal or install. For upright engines I like a floor jack with a big plate that gives me plenty of wiggle room for lining things up. Ainokea

I have the one from HF and have used it on both my type 4 and upright and feel it was more stable then just a floor jack.

I've always used a floor Jack and a piece of 3/4 plywood. Does the ATV Jack roll, so you can pull the engine out from under he car?
