Re: Home away from Home, on wheels.

mine also needs to be replaced (does not self cancel) in fact, a stiff wind will move and turn my signal on.
(anyone that has caravan ed with me will notice my signal on all the time)
but I think my signal is one of those goofed up transition year parts.

Re: BEN GRIMM 73' WESTY

Long story short, was driving out on Montauk and all of a sudden I felt an extra few inches of play come along at the steering wheel. Steering box looks wet but an old wet, so before I go changing that, the drag link looked shot.

Re: BEN GRIMM 73' WESTY

Well, back on the road and took a road trip to Bangor Maine !
Drove just under a total of 1000 miles for the trip, it ran great, but I still have some oil leaking from somewhere. (think it's still may be a valve cover leak)
It wasn't alot 1/2 a quart or so, but it sure makes a mess.
Now I have to ...

Re: BEN GRIMM 73' WESTY

It's wasn't so cheap! just couldn't justify spending double...sorry I cant spend $7500-10K on a new engine, wasn't aware that Bus DEPOT uses AVP's and their "issues" but whenever you get something re-built you take the chance of luck of the draw, you have no idea how many times a block or head has ...

Re: BEN GRIMM 73' WESTY

Well, it happened.....brand new rebuilt block, bought last march, now with 4K miles on it... I dropped a cylinder.

Checked all the wiring and nope runs deeper than that, so I took it in, and looks like on one of the heads, the rocker arm assembly by cyl#1- 4 studs that hold the assy in place, 1 ...

Re: BEN GRIMM 73' WESTY

In the old days I would have bought a rebuilt kit for the weber progressive $35, rebuild it, put it back on and then sit there and adjust and fool with it till I got it running right. I had it running ok before it moved to the rebuilt engine then I had some small issues that I was able to deal with ...

Re: 71 Westy

Yeah I know, but I think I have all the parts, want to hook it up for whatever it's worth.
It's just hooking up a couple of wires....

Don't worry, I'm, not going to ask to borrow tool or anything crazy like that.

Re: 71 Westy

That looks like a nice fit and fix.
I have to figure out the wiring of the small assisting blower motor for the heat,
and I'm not very good at reading electric diagrams.
Perhaps at the parade we all can look at it, and I can get whatever little heat moving a little.
( something is better than ...

Re: BEN GRIMM 73' WESTY

Slightly disagree.. on the bay window
73 was a 1700cc (just shy of 1700 but they called it 1700cc) pancake style, but it was orig twin carbs (solex)
I think 74 was also twin carb (not EFI) and I think it was split1800cc / 2000 cc
75-79 and up were EFI and 2L...
