Well... I just got a email from the guy I purchased the backing plates from. He said when he checked, the adjuster tabs on the left one are broken off. He has 2 rights that are nice and 2 lefts that both have broken tabs.

I asked why the pictures in his ad have all the tabs, but obviously they are not pictures of the ones he has.

I told him I need a pair since the ones on the car are rusted to shit. It sounds like he'll send me a right and left for the price of one. While not critical, it's nice to have the tabs.

Does that mean I might have to stick my left foot out to brake the bug?
Keep working at it and it gets done!!

Nope... the little clips prevent the adjusters from moving. you can drive without them.

Replacements are available for $3 but the shipping is like $10. I order parts from them so the next time i do i'll order a few. Then we can get GA to weld it on when its in the car.

If I buy 5 then they're $5 each with shipping.

1 for Aot
2 for GA
2 for GR

If that's OK... i'll order them now. We'll have them Thursday.

Ordered.

We'll need you to weld on to AoT's left backing plate. I'll get them to you when I have everything..... unless you have a welder in the Bus.

BRAKE UPDATE

I have everything to finish the brakes except for a left backing plate.

E-brake cables (2)
seals (2)
grease seals (2)
right backing plate
E-brake retaining clips (2)
E-brake lever pin

Insulated speedo light

The only thing we need is a left backing plate and i'll be stopping by Gene's VW tomorrow, he's sure he can dig one up.

GA.... let's set a date to return to the scene of the crime.

OK... now for the Wish List.

We need to replace the autostick shifter with a 4 speed shifter.
The driver's door window regulator is frozen and needs to be replaced
The horn button is broken so we need to replace that.

Anything else?

E-town is Sunday so let's keep an eye out for them.

I might have door regulator, and are you talking about the actual stick that shifts the gears cause i just had mine changed because I had a new one and nothing is really wrong with the old one. Call me I'm coming to GT this week to pick up the bus. I can drop off if it will work. The parts are out of a 71 super.
Having a good time with my VW!!

Ooooo, aaaaaaah

Ready to Rock.

New (Ate) wheel cylinder, new shoes and the adjusters spin like "butta".

Checkout those adjuster holes... they're not all chewed up.

Since the rear wheels are off waiting for the brakes to get done, took off the "kissed" rear fender to see what gives.

The fender bolt holes are nice and solid, but most of the undercoating is lifted off and cracked.

New shiny rear brakes on order. Need to check out the options with these bumper brackets.

After a very long, bumpy week its nice to have a friend enjoy a snooze in the bug.

The crunch is has gotten very rusty, so looking to uncrunch it. I've got your idea GA!

It still hurts to look at it.

My cats love being in the VW. Last night my black cat Boo (the one in the carnage thread) never answered the calls to come in for the night. Starting getting a yittle scared around 8AM that he was a goner, then I checked the bug. Sure enough that's where he spent the night. Must have settled down for a nap and never heard me closing it up for the night. Another thing for the checklist!
