After all the musical cars, I unbolted the body from the pan. She has only been on there for about 5-6 years so its came over very easily.... all but one that started spinning. Sliced up the DS front and see what I had to deal with, l;luckily that was the loose nut. A 12 mm wrench fit perfect.
lifted up the body
NOS mexican section awaits
I cute the old panel off with cut off wheel, but just then the wifer got back home. I helped per with the grocerys and liam, and had a quick chat. I returned back to the garage..... smelt and saw smoke. I nearly $hit myself bc her car was now in the driveway, and this thing was up in the air. I quickly ripped out all the fenders and stuff inside the car and saw this. ( naturally took a picture first)
I guess the sparks form the cut off wheel ignited the horse hair from the the seat. Wow. I sometime play with the car for 30 minutes in the AM before work. Not anymore!
needless to car, tonite was ' clean out the interior' work
nice rot!

Looks good. I'm so paranoid over those little fires. You really need to stay on top of that shit. I had some undercoating go up on me last night. Of course welding and grinding while my right shoulder is leaning on a 10 gallon fuel tank was enough to keep me alert.
That interior corner looks like it should be fun.
Took the day off today for a mental health day ( aka... work on the VW day)
I lost one mount that connects the rocker to the pan, so first clean up the metal, then I yanked one out of a donor section. I ran a tap through it and welded it in.
Addressed the hole behind the DS front tire .
Since the rocker was open I was able to weld a plate from behind
then I welded another panel flush on top, then grinded her down.

I was thinking about it, but I don't think so. I wanna drive this thing daily, If I make it too nice and spend too much money on it, it will surely burn my a$$, when it gets some dings from rock chips, interior scratches from swap meet finds and home depot runs, etc. I think I'll spot blast any areas that looks questionable and save the cost of a whole body blasting for something else that will be more along the lines of a 'ten', like an oval or something. Good idea tho Marc

I think this car needs to keep that arctic camo look. Get it straight and smooth and flat. And then lay that camo back on there for real out of a gun. Make sure the paint shop adds flatener to the paint to knock down the shine.

Exactly the reason my buggy is rockin' the Rustoleum rattlecan look.
Spent mt lunch hour buying some crap for the car.....
Eastwood rust encapsulator ( RE) / seam sealer/ and 100 chip brushes are in route. I'll paint over anything I touch or that is rusty.
PS - looks like someone f'ed up @ eastwood and is selling RE and SS cheaper on Ebay than on there website. OOPs for them.... but better for me. If your in need, grab it up!

All kidding aside, I've heard that from multiple sources from my other club.

Somehow, I dont think that the shelf life of this item is that short. I have no experience taking things in the back door, so I'm gonna stick with my funny ass long winded theory. 3 listings, all same product number and seller.
Its actually 5 sections of metal. so Its interested as figure out how I'll peice thins thing back together
this is the hurdle right now. Take apart the donor metal, repair it, then replace the old.
Its really 3 jobs, inner rocker, outer rocker, and then the splash panel.
