Kenny Scharf

Have a chance to have my bus painted by world famous artist Kenny Scharf tomorrow for free. He has been in touch with me and if weather is good said he is good to go. What do you all think? Bus would be a rolling piece of art work and worth a heck of a lot more. Think Keith Haring. Thoughts?

You have a bus with a really nice paint job and i'd thing 10 times before I let someone turn it into a art car.

And after would you be willing to still go camping, in the rain and dirt?

I know I know. Wouldn't let him go that crazy on it. Just a cool thought but I like my bus just the way it is...

Dave's bus has a paint job that could be improved.

No offense intended, but if it's a Baywindow I'd say go for it. If it's a split I'd think twice. A super nice Baywindow bus still barley cracks into decent split bus territory. I look at it this way. Baywindows are similar to late model Beetles and Supers. Still cool, still VWs. But they just don't bring the same money or command the same desirability. So that means to me. If you have one have fun with it and not feel guilty. I'm a big champion of using and enjoying vintage cars. Whatever than means. Driving, racing, modifying whatever. I'm not familiar with this artist but if he's good enough to get you that excited. I'd say go for it. If it were me, I'd rather regret doing it and have to paint the bus again someday. As opposed to regret not having done it. But that's just me.

How about picking up a spare pass door and slider and let him paint that's? I know it's not as easy a swap as a thing, but just an idea. Same deal for maybe just the back hatch or any boltable panel

I wouldn't let him do the whole bus but I like the idea of doing a spare rear hatch, this way when you get sick of it you can put the original back. I think just doing doors would look weird .
I'm not an air cooled snob , I like them all !

I thought the same thing Tom. Maybe just paint the rear hatch or the tire cover. Being a baseball fan would have had him paint some sort of baseball with a face (google Scharf Play Ball). Don't think he is doing event today anyways with this weather.

You all have fun next weekend. See you soon.
