Went back for a bachelors of Business. The degree is Funeral Services Administration.
No state requires a bachelors, and few even offer it. As it is, most states only require an applied AS, and one doesn't even require licensure. But, there is a changing climate in the business, cremation is climbing in popularity, fast. Add that my independence and Long Island don't seem to want to cooperate means that I need to be more marketable outside of the TriState. Boston, Danvers, Salem, Georgetown are all calling... In an industry that is swallowing up small family business in lieu of big corporate death factories the bachelors should certainly keep my head above water when others become less desirable.

Good move bud. All about looking fwd, and planning ahead. Its an ever changing climate we life in, and the workplace is no different. Other then the piece of paper and marketability of you as a potential new hire if/ when that comes to surface, you might even learn something! Nothing wrong with venturing into your own biz and being your own boss.

Re: living on LI... thats whole other topic. One has to has a true sense of ' what do I need to do to make this work' if you want to live here. Something will generally need to compromise, whether its your lifestyle, work/ life balance, timeline on hobbies etc. Doable? Absolutely.....
