My daughter's fiancé has his first up close and personal look at a Ghia in Brooklyn last week that was a beauty. Now he is a fan. Found this on eBay and it was delivered today. Nice baseball style shirt for the new fan!!
This pad was actually a front pad, and it was dry. Its possible the 'wet' theory happened years ago and then dried... not sure. Havent driven the car in forever, so could just be old age.
I had a similiar situation on a side job I did recently; Did the brakes on a 66. During the break in/ bed in process, one wheel locked up completely. Literally ' dragged' it home, and when I pulled it apart, the meat of the pad came dislodged from the shoe ( these were ' bonded' shoes). It actually wedged it self inbw the other shoe and the drum. That sucked!
In speaking to a buddy, he says it happens often..... scary.

Finally got my rear axle seal in the mail, and popped it in last night.
Buttoned up the brakes and put her down on the ground.
Going to take her for a ride and see how she feels this weekend. Then need to align the front end and retorque it all down. Looking fwd to adding her to the rotation. Poor girl was last inspected in 2011.

Finally got a few things straightened out on the ole' girl
- snapped the key off inside the lock, so needed to source a new ignition switch
- gas tank was filthy, drained and cleaned
- new fuel lines/ filter
- installed a rebuilt carb
Took her to get some groceries last night. Loud.... needs a muffler. And I need to sort out the tires/ wheel on it. These are just rollers on the rear

Def enough to keep me out of trouble! The plan to drive them more and liquidate a tad to get the other projects funded/ time allotted to get them done.

I tried.... NG. I had a few old switches with no key. I found a guy that cuts the keys for $20 shipped, just needed the code. So for $20 bucks, was a no brainer.

Completely blew out the muffler on the way to see my guy. And having some very bad clutch chatter so I think the engine mounts are suspect. Cant remember when I last pulled this motor so thats prob on the list to address this and few items.
