Be careful with the serp belt. They provide no slip for the fan and even welded fans are know to explode if over accelerated.
Does it have flaps and thermostat?

Nope. Just went with the welded balanced fan and scat cool tins. External oil cooler, 5 qt pan.external oil filter.

If the engine is built and tuned correctly you won't need an external oil cooler. Too cool is almost as bad as too hot.
Not trying to get on your case, but i've seen/built many engines and some things work better than others. Also what's easy isn't always what's best.
If your 1835 is built with the standard thin wall 92s, then you need it to run correctly or they will warp. OE German tin is the most important including running the correct Type 1 tin and shroud.. Even the small tins underneath by #2 and #4. And don't forget the Hoover Bit that fits around the stock oil cooler.
If you ever want to discuss the pros and cons, i'll be happy to do it in person.
When you install the engine, make sure you breakin the cam correctly. If you want, i have a bell housing and starter you can borrow so you can do the breakin with the engine outside of the car.

Thanks . I appreciate it. Guy that built the motor has been drag racing and building drag motors for VWs for a very very long time. I have the utmost confidence in the build. I watched and helped every step of the way so I have no doubts about durability etc.

I've known Joe since the early 80s. He built a 1776 for me back in the late 80s.
Building a drag race engine and a street engine that will last 100,000 miles are apples and oranges.
Like said, i'll be happy to discuss when we meet. It's just easier.

I know, this is the time consuming part, the bolting of the pans, etc. Ive already test run and tuned the engine on the stand and its perfect. so now all my attention is on the body and pan. So far all is good. Im going over everything twice, fronto back and back to front...... I hope to be at the april metting.

Four days of progress and the motor is ready to install, the engine bay has been prepped and detailed. I got sidetracked by having to re-wire the headlights as the previous owner decided a 12v conversion is just changing the battery.....needless to say some wire melted. Soooo im hoping by may it will be on the road. The engine has been test run and is flawless. See you all soon
